Nice to see a follow up and the result.
New motors can smell a bit metallic when running for the first few cycles, but if you haven't replaced or cleaned the post filter then the previous smell can remain for a while also

Thanks Ryevac, ref the filters they were both rinsed out prior to motor change but probably time to treat it to new ones for peace of mind, do you think it would be worth splitting the cyclone assembly & if I do do you just wash it out with warm water or can it be put in a dishwasher ?

Nah..... if it's working and suction / pickup is ok i would leave it.... your preference.
