Loud noise!
« on: October 26, 2011, 10:41:08 pm »
Hello! I just bought a second hand DC07 and it worked fine for a week but has suddenly started to make a horrible noise after about 10 minutes' use. We've taken it apart and put it back to together but it's still doing it - any ideas?  :'(
Also it's become very difficult to move the unit from standing to reclining position without moving it forward first and really forcing it back.
If we can't resolve it I'll contact the seller and ask for my money back!   :angryman:
Thanks for any help!

Is this by any chance one of the *bargain* eBay or market/car boot machines?  ::)

If it is having problems reclining and standing up, check the carriage mechanism is working and not blocked. Here is a video:

Can you describe the noise in more detail?

Hi,

No I bought it from my work intranet so no big deal to ask the guy I got it from for a refund/explanation thankfully!
Thanks for link to video, tried that last night re reclining mechanism, will try again though.
The noise can only be described as sounding like something has been caught in the mechanism, a grinding noise - its's very loud and sudden. Switch off and on again and it goes, only to return in 10-15 mins. We've cleaned the brush and checked the belt and both seem fine.
Thanks again for replying!

That sounds like the clutch is faulty and/or the brush roll bearings are seized.

Look on the wheel on the clutch that the clutch to brush roll belt runs on. See if it is white, or melted and damaged. Does the brush roll spin free between your hands when taken out?
