Sucking Air at Dust Bin-Cyclone Junction--Faulty Gasket?
« on: May 04, 2022, 02:38:33 PM »
I have no idea if this is the correct sub-forum to post my question. The Dyson upright has no model number; it just says "Dyson Slim Ball".

My vac is drawing air--and thus loosing suction overall--at the junction between the cyclone assembly and the dust bin. I suspect the gasket that seals the bin against the cyclone might be faulty; but it is pliant, has no tears, and fits into its groove snugly. I've taken to wrap the area with electrical tape. I'd like to replace this gasket but i cannot find the part number for it. Any idea what the OEM part number is for the gasket

They often leak a bit from gaskets like that when blocked elsewhere. It's a bit of a red herring.

From what you are saying, it may be a DC18, and the central hose under the head is the likely culprit.

The first three digits of the serial number would confirm the model.

First three digits of the serial number: NP3

I'm not certain I follow you regarding central hose under the head. I presume by 'central hose' you mean the hose into which the wand passes; and I have no idea what the head might be. Is there a specific gasket or seal you suspect is the source of the leak?

That's not on our serial number checker. Is this a cordless or a mains machine? Is the filter on the top if cordless?

That's a UP16, which I assume is an American model?

It's pretty much a DC40 anyway. Look here where the arrow is.

Look at this hose.

See if you can take it out and if its blocked.

Have you changed the filter?

I checked that short length of hose. It's clear.

The problem seems to be at the junction between the cyclone assembly and the dust bin. After I wrap the junction with electrical tape, full suction is restored. Any idea what the OEM part number is for the gasket for a up16/DC40?

Thanks for the link.

It appears that the suspect gasket is not sold as an item. Bummer.
