Sebo x1 blowing fuse 5 amp
« on: May 09, 2022, 03:45:01 pm »
I have a sebo x1 blowing fuses ( 5 amp ) I’ve stripped it down and the motor runs freely and carbon brushes are touching the commutator.
The motor runs for a short time before the fuse blows , this is a 5 amp which it’s always had. There is a slight burning smell on the motor therefore I’m assuming it’s a fault on the motor. All the other pulleys seem okay. Can anyone suggest anything else it could be other than a faulty motor. Thanks

I'd be taking the brushes out to make sure they have a decent length. They should be long enough to have a little spring pressure when fitted.

Have you bench tested the motor to see if it's sparking in operation? Or looked at the visual condition of the commutator?

Also, your X1 is 850w IIRC. For appliances above 700w, a 13a fuse should be fitted. Nobody really uses 5a anymore.

Check the length of the brushes, make sure the comm is clean and the motor not unduly sparking in use, if all OK, fit a 13a fuse and see what happens then. We'll go from there.

I’ve removed the carbon brushes and both are very low so replacement maybe the first step. I have the sebo branded motor does anyone know if the lamb motor brushes will fit the photo looks very similar to the ones I’ve removed.

If it's an X1 it should have the Lamb motor in, and the brushes are >>these ones<<.

I'd also clean the motor with a comm stick if it's particularly dirty if the brushes have got quite low.

I’ve fitted new brushes and ran the motor on the bench for a few seconds (13 amp fuse) . The fuse didn’t blow but I’m getting a lot of sparks and also smoke with a burning smell. I’d tried cleaning the commutator but no improvement. Does this suggest the motor is finished?

Sounds like it might have had it.  Worth checking the brushes are moving freely, I've sometimes had some where the holders have got damaged through heat and stops them sliding.

My motor has a different numbers stamped on it 6985-08 also 212195F . The belt is 5109 and 424AG. These are different to description on Sebo X1 Ametek Lamb 117818-08 Motor.
The photo looks very similar to mine but the description suggests it’s different. Can anyone confirm this . Thanks

5379 is 5109, same belt.

All European X1s have the same motor.
