DC 14 just won't turn on
« on: November 26, 2011, 04:32:09 pm »
I am in the US and I have a DC14 that just turned off while I was using it.  I read online to clean brush and check for clogs then to press a reset button on the side of the vacuum or under the hood.  I can't find any reset switch.  Can someone please show me where this is?  I hope this solves my problem.

Also IF that works, I also have another issue with a piece that cracked off where the hose attaches to the upright shaft.  The hose will not stay in place without this piece.  I have glued it several times but because of taking the hose on and off it continues to come off.  It looks like there isn't a way to replace that as it is the main piece of the vacuum.  THANKS!

Ok my husband figured out it was the power cord.  He fixed it but if someone knows the answer to the 2nd half of this question I would appreciate it!

Is this piece at the top or bottom of the hose? Is it on the hose itself?

It's not on the hose.  Its the part the hose clicks onto the vacuum.  It's directly behind and between the red on/off button and the red button that releases the canister.  Does that help?  I can take a picture.

You need a chassis to fix that I'm afraid.

Changing it also involves a full strip down.

As you are in the US, a new one can be had from Sears but they are an eye-watering $154. See here: http://tinyurl.com/c59rs7o

The part number for the US is 908656-03. There will be other suppliers if you Google.

The UK part numbers are: 908656-01, 908656-02 and 908656-05

I don't see why a UK one wouldn't fit, they are not expensive here new (About $56) but shipping wouldn't be cheap as its a big box and couriers charge by volumetric weight rather than actual weight. Sniffing out a used one on eBay in the US would be my first choice.

If you are reading this in the US and you have one of these, do holler.
