DC05 motorhead

Hi

I am a newby DIYer with a DC05 I inherited long ago with no motorhead. I bought a secondhand motorhead and fitted it but no sign of life in the brushes. A quick check across the two pins on the motorhead show no continuity, should there be?

I know the switch in the handle is prone to failure but it powers up the fan motor with no problem. Does the motorhead get supplied with 230V?
