Brush Spindle dc24
« on: February 04, 2012, 11:46:09 am »
Hello
I'm looking at replacing the brush motor on my dc24 and I have been told that the original brush spindle will not fit the new moter. Does anyone know if this is the case?

Thank you

On the brush roll motor, there is a three finned drive cog that sits in the brush roll. On DC24's, two types were fitted. They modified the three finned cog and the brush roll. Most machines are the later type as it was an early modification.

Only the later type of brush roll motor is available.

So if you buy one and it doesn't fit your brush roll, you do one of three things: change the brush roll too, change the three finned cog over (detaches with a T8 screw) or you can also drill down the brush roll a bit so the newer cog will sit in there.

Thank you for the response. Very useful. Also the tutorial on changing the motor is excellent. What I can't understand is why the vacuum repair shop had my hoover 5 months and still didn't manage to do this! Keep up the good work :grinn:

Five months?  :o

We turn a brush roll motor swap around in 24 hours for 'walk-in's' in our shop typically.

For sure, the motors are often on backorder, but not longer than a few weeks usually. We buy them a hundred at a time - when we can - to absorb the usual backorder delay - because Dyson are so slow to supply them.

Five months is hilarious though.  :chuckle:

Perhaps if you are in somewhere remote in the US or Canada the supply chain might not be so hot........

Not quite Canada or USA just Sheffield!

I have now asked for my hoover back and will be ordering a motor and T8 screwdriver from yourselves to fit it myself. Do you have any in stock because my wife is not an happy bunny? Only question is do I go for a brush bar as well or try to modify the one I have?

Cheers

I think we have about three dozen in at the moment. Some arrived a few days ago.  :icon_nod:

Why not see if your cog will swap over before you commit to a brush roll? That's if its in good condition and not all chewed up.

:( Just replaced the brush roll motor which was straight forward. I discovered that you can swap the spindle by changing the belt assembly which is attached to the spindle. Well pleased with myself!! But the motor is not working so i'm assuming the PCB has blown as well. Do you sell these and how much do they cost?

Yes I've pressed the reset a few times, dismantled the headset and connected to power nothing happening. Made sure hoover not upright etc. Out of interest how do you check the pcb to see if its working?

It can be involved with a meter. We tend to just fit another one and see if that works instead.

Although, very seldom it is the PCB. Why not just test to see if you have feed out of the PCB towards the motor?

We will likely have some used PCB's around cheaper than new in case of need. New ones list at about £30, so a used one at half that would be more economical.

Thanks for the response. I think i'll go for the used PCB option. Do you have any details how to order this online, it doesn't seem to be available in your online spares shop?
By the way excellent service when I ordered the moter and T8 screw driver. Here within a few days.

Cheers
