Author Topic: DC25 Brush Bar Motor - how do I tell if it has failed? (Read 39886 times)

The kids sucked up a sock, and the brush bar motor has stopped running.

I suspect brush bar motor is burnt out, tho it shows no signs of damage - no burnt coil or smell. I know I might need to buy whole new brush bar unit and I'm trying to save £80.

With brush bar disconnected, there is no voltage supply from the main unit to brush bar connecter (I would expect 240v ac), so my question is- is there a fuse or maybe fusible resistor in main unit that might have blown? Also, what reading would I expect across the motor terminals to determine if it has blown or not?

Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Those motors are DC I think.

Just to be clear, you have stripped it down and have no power from the PCB to the motor?

Yes, stripped brush unit. Motor appears undamaged to naked eye. Plugged socket back into main unit and there is no power to pcb. ie no power from the connector on main unit.

Ahh, if there is no power from the unit, then I would be looking at the micro switch or the brush switch. Just follow the power trail.

You have pressed the reset switch I guess?

That switch can fail, they only cost about £5, part number 914266-01 and look like this......

AHA. Did'nt realise there was one. I will have a look. Away at work for a couple of weeks now but will check when I get home

I cant find this switch? Where is it located exactly please?

The two switches are labelled "Upright Switch" and "Reset Switch" on the exploded diagram here: DC25 Schematic.

Also, you will only get power to the head when the machine is reclined and the 'upright switch' switched.
