DC25 putting the switch back together again
« on: March 16, 2012, 07:34:44 pm »
Hi all i purchased a used Dyson from a friend for £20.00 a few weeks ago now. I would like to think I'm fairly good at taking things apart so brought it as a project, the machine turned on but i later found that the head assembly unit need replaced as the belt had burnt the housing it was cased in and it was well smashed up in the sole plate, i purchased a new assembly unit and fitted it today, and to my dispair it still refuses to spin! :'(
i figured it must be the brush bar on off switch or the reset switch, Taking apart the switch unit i found the probelm to be the reset switch as it was burnt out inside,

to test this i joined the two wires up that was going to the reset switch and found it to work great :grinn:

My worry is now getting it all back together again when i have ordered the new switch, i have 2 springs I'm not sure  i lost one does anyone know how many springs there should be in the switch unit ?

Also does anyone have a diagram or better still a video showing how to get the switch back together again

I kept the motor that spins the brush and this works well still i understand that its a part that can not be purchased is there a for sale page here ?

thanks for any advice

IM SURE THIS SPRING CANT BE IMPORTANT

is there a for sale page here ?

Many people send their spare stuff up to us and get a Paypal or a bank deposit in return. We can always use those. Send Claire or me a PM.

I am not aware of any videos out there yet for that aspect of the DC25, did you get a new reset switch already? We can get you one if not (I think we have some actually) They are not dear....

Someone will likely put you a couple of photos up if you are struggling. We don't have a DC25 in bits here right now or we would. I am sure we will have one in during the next few days though.

More to the point, if your mate has any more DC25's @ £20, we'll take 50 of them!  ;D

these two pics should clear up where the the springs go.....you may need to "hold up" the switch buttons as you re-assemble - also fit rollerbrush button first!

I have no rollerbrush spinning - reset sw is fine (checked continuity) motor not spinning in brush housing - have looked at it/smelt it - it seems fine....need to check power/upright sw....

Hope I've helped?

Mark

Update - found the problem in the uprightswitch housing - just sharing this in case it helps someone!

Thank You so much for posting that photo of the Dyson DC25 switch apparatus. That sprig and rocker arm flew out when I took mines apart and I couldn't figure it out until I saw the photo you posted. Thanks!!!!

Thank you so much for the pictures of how to put the switch assembly back together again. I had no idea that the second spring fit on the brusharm. I don't think I would have ever known without your pictures. Thank you again!
