DC01 Absolute HEPA filter melting
« on: March 26, 2012, 08:22:52 am »
RE: Dyson DC01 Absolute

I have replaced the HEPA filter twice.  At first instance on both occaisions, HEPA melted.

I have contacted DYSON Australia 6x (2x form email on website & 4x voicemail); still no reply.  Most service agents refer me back to Dyson as they aren't permitted to repair Dyson products.  The closest 2 companies that do repairs on Dyson are 2hrs away and do not do models older than DC05.

I'm an electrician by trade and would gain a sense of satisfaction if I had an DIY opportunity to strip down the unit and fix; can anyone please assist with scematics, tutorials or a starting point to test?

Kind regards,
Paul

Dyson have abandoned all support for the DC01 now.

If your HEPA filters are melting, the motor is running too hot. Have you stripped it down to look at the condition of the motor yet? That is the first job really by the sound of it.

Thank you for providing a starting point.

I've googled as well as checked this current site and at www.dysonrepairmanuals.com for DC01 workshop, service & repair manual, to no avail.

As this is my first strip of a vacuum, I'm unfamiliar with its engineering and specific tools.

Can you suggest where I might find a repair manual or tutorial with instructions on stripping the DC01?

Thank you.

There is no repair manual for the DC01 that I am aware of.

However, they are quite simple to strip down with a T15 Torx screwdriver.

They have one of two types of motor. If a YDK (YV-940) one is fitted, you can get brushes and an armature for Oz from >>this page<< if you are up to that job.
