« on: April 08, 2012, 10:32:10 am »
Hi Can anyone shed some liight on my problem, I have a DC15 and the brushbar cuts out when the
handle is moved up or down when i am hoovering.
It will come back on by pressing the brushbar switch next to the power switch but it is so infuriating.

That could be a break in the loom feeding the head, a faulty PCB or a faulty motor. It would be difficult to diagnose at a distance without being able to examine the machine and strip it down.

Hi and thanks for a speedy response, I wasn't really suspecting PCB or motor fault as the brushbar only stops
operating when the handle is no in an exact position.
I was hoping there was a micro switch which cut the brusbar out when handle was returned to upright and it was
this, that was causing my problems
I didn't think of the loom but will check that too

There are two wires that run through from the PCB to feed the head unit. They are really thin, like telephone wire. They can chaff over time and cause intermittent problems like you describe. We probably do two DC15's a month with similar problems.

You can muck about mending them and soldering bits of wire in, but changing the little loom is easier as they are not expensive.

I would start by checking those wires.
