Hi.

my new, used DC14 Animal has a cracked carrying handle at the top of the cyclone assembly.  It's cracked where it joins the cyclone at the front (By the release clip) and creaks when you lift the vac!  :o

My guess is that it's only a matter of time before it breaks off and the vac goes tumblin' with gravity.

My question is this:  Is the grab handle removeable from the cyclone top, either for replacing (If the part is available) or a good session with lashings of Araldite?

If it is removeable, how is this operation performed please?  All looks a bit fragile to me.

Thanks

You are having  some fun with your Dyson - it'll be a great vacuum when you've got all these little issues sorted out though! Personally the DC14 is one of my favourites  :icon_nod:

They cyclone handle comes off really easily by undoing two screws on the inside of the cyclone top. The second screw is inside the pressure release valve housing so that will come away too when you undo the screw but it goes back together pretty simply.

The problem is finding a replacement! The cyclone handles don't break anywhere nearly as often as the DC07 (a big improvement on Dysons part!) so they aren't as readily available. Those nice people from Manchester Vacs may be able to supply just the handle or more likely the whole cyclone top.

Otherwise it would be a whole new cyclone unit so araldite might seem like a good option  ;)

We do have some DC14 handles; if I remember right, its only two screws to replace one.

That's good news - better than the Araldite

Do you have the see-thru purple handle?  If so, how much please?

Thanks

Thanks for the heads up.

Once I've located & undone the screws, does the handle have to slide out forwards or does it just lift out?  I don't want t oforce anything as it seems so delicate.

Thanks for your help thus-far  :tiphat:

The handle will quite literally slide out the top of the lid, no real 'persuasion' needed. Fitting the new one is just as simple!  8)

Job done, in 2 mins, thanks for that.

The handle did literally "Fall out" as the front part that was cracked was actually totally mashed up and when the screw was removed, the threaded bit fell out in a  dozen fragments  :o
Now I'm handleless but better on the bench than half-way up the stairs!

awaiting MancVacs to see if they have a replacement in the right colour

Can't wait to use the animal, I've spent about 4 hours stripping it right down and bleach / jif cleaning it all with the wife's toothbrush, so it's like a new vac (Other than it's got a cracked handle)

ps. I needed the bleach for the toothbrush!  :)) :)) :))
