I have a well used dc14 that didn't have a lot of suck...... until I decided to run it with the cyclone/bin assembly removed, by chance i had the exhaust grill removed as well... I switched it on and about 5 seconds later like a cork from a bottle the hepa filter shot upwards just missing my nose probably about 3 foot in air ( i was kneeling!)
As we use this dc14 to hoover up kitty litter a lot (hence fine clay dust) I was wondering if i can just put in the simple non hepa filter pad or will it need a replacement grill and or adapter basket of some kind? the pad can be washed or replaced as needed

You certainly could just replace the HEPA filter with a normal filter pad. The filter pads are normally simply glued to the underneath of the post filter cover but that isn't really necessary, because as you found out, the air flow from the motor is pretty strong and it just pushes the filter up into place anyway!

You'd obviously lose the benefit of the HEPA filter though!

I think a pad helps the motor exhaust better.  :icon_nod:
