I take it the same way as the private parking companies who chase fines in a half arsed way. It's rare it will go to court, they make their money from the 10% who cough up immediatly.

If you made 200 calls in a day, and got 20 bookings. 20 x (say £50 a time) is £1,000, and I doubt £50 worth of time and effort goes into the work they (probably not very well) carry out. If you have someone else/your wife/daughter calling whilst you go round and rip people off, you can make even more as you dont need to waste time calling people up.

Be interesting to see what the 'service' is for £40, I hazard a guess at a new vvvv cheap pre motor filter and a quick wipe down, rather than the methods the traders on here go to to ensure satisfaction, repeat custom and a good reputation!

Yes mate: I can do the math, just call me cynical if you like. Maybe it's spending too much time working with coppers, but I take very little if anything at face value. Anyway I'll watch & see what comes out in the wash.

I had a very interesting chat with a lady today, the tale goes like this...

She rang up "ask Dyson" to book a service for her DC33. Genuine Dyson bloke goes round at the specified time and gives her DC33 a seeing to. She gets chatting and explains she needs a small Dyson for upstairs.

The Dyson bloke explains that they are cutting back on manpower and engineers are also being used as salesmen and flogged her a DC24 for £200 with a 2 year warranty. Anyway, the DC24 wasn't used for a while and when she went to use it, the brush bar failed to rotate. So she rang Dyson up again and a bloke came out and replaced the cleaner head.
She went to use it again and it still didn't work.
She rang Dyson again and they told her the 5 year warranty had elapsed. Approximately 2 years had lapsed since she bought it.

I was very careful what I said but I smelled a rat and told her to try the red rest button.

It sounds to me that someone from Dyson is selling recon Dysons on the side.

I said I know of 3 dodgy Dyson servicers in Lincolnshire but she insisted this was the real McCoy.

She has also sought legal action which is fair enough I think because the product was not of merchantable quality.

Your thougs please ladies and gents?

The end of line machines get called "B Grade" and come with a two year warranty. Might be legit. One would imagine she can tell a new machine from a fettled one?

How is a dc24 still worth 200 sovs though? I presume you havent seen the machine personally to see if it is new or refurbed sleaford?

Did she keep any contact details or anything? Could Dyson tell her from the serial what the original warranty length was? If she bought it from Dyson she could have grounds to push quite hard...

Nah, I've not seen it. She wasn't even a customer, just someone I was chatting to.

Not saying the woman's lying or anything, but I wish i had a quid for every time a punter told me they'd only used an item once or twice since it was new or repaired.
You know what punters are like, they'll tell you anything to try and get your sympathy. Maybe she thought that by feeding you a sob story, you'd feel sorry for her & offer to fix it on the cheap or for free.
She obviously didn't realise she was telling you she's a sloven either, only used the vacuum a few times in 2 years :grinn:

Back on the subject of phone calls, that lot in Lincoln tried it with me again last week.

"Hello is that Mr S??

"Yes"

"Have you still got your Dyson?

"I've got about 40 of the bastards at the moment, good day".

I'd have so much fun with a phonecall like that!

Get them all excited, say I need a motor, filter, everything. Then either present a 1943 Hoover 375 or, like you, a sea of Dysons!

The more of their time you waste, the less they can rip off someone gullible enough to fall for it!

They've done it again, twice within the last half hour!
The first time I did my usual "I've got about 40 Dysons" response. The second time, I took a leaf out of Sam's book, pretending to be an old codger with a 2 year old dc25. Had the silly cow on the phone for ages!
Cop for this...
Some bird reading this from a script.....
"There is a known fault with this Dyson model.....Bollocks...bollocks...bollocks, etc.
Ooh, you're not those nasty people on Burton Road as seen on the telly are you?
No, we're in North Hykeham.

*snip* gotya! :grinn:

I don't know Sam, I just switched off and giggled. As I'm in Lincoln every day with my proper job, I think I'll drop off a MINT DC07 for these herberts to have a look at and see what they can pick up on.

And then tell them to bollocks!!!
