DC01 poor pick up @ cleaner head
« on: June 12, 2012, 02:34:41 pm »
This is my first post to the site so please bear with me...  :snivel:

I was vacuuming my house recently and I noticed that my vacuum is not picking up properly at the cleaner head.
I have checked the suction at the hose and it is as strong as ever. I have replaced the filters, brush roll and belts to no avail  >:(

My vacuum is a DC01 Blue Limited edition with a swivelling soleplate. If you need any more information could you please contact.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks.

PS - on a different topic, do you have any spare DC01 wheels in grey with the retainer kit? I do not care what colour the caps are, as I can easily change them!

Have you checked the bottom hose for obstructions or splits?

There was no hose - there is on the DC04 though...

I checked the airways and removed the soleplate and cleared all the airways in that
The seals are all intact

Changeover valve blocked possibly?
I'm not too familiar with the DC01 (mine's a DC07)-what does it have in place of a bottom hose?

the changeover part is integral to the soleplate. It is clear and the seal that holds it is intact.

As said, they dont have a bottom hose, but a channel within the base plate that does the same job. I know what you meant though and I agree.

Remove the sole/baseplate with a few screws. It will be blocked in the plastic channel within the base plate. That's where they always block up. Failing which, check the rubber flap at the back is working properly.

Wheels etc: Yes, we have plenty. Shoot the shop an email (closed until Thursday now though). They are not expensive.

It is clear and the seal that holds it is intact.

The seal was intact but very dry - moistened with some vaseline and it runs much better - still not as good as before, but I guess that is to be expected when the hoover is 16 years old. However, the suction is still much better out of the wand - if you feel inside the inspection flaps while the machine is on and you are using the wand, the suction is 100%
If you recline the cleaner and feel inside the flaps, the suction is noticeably weaker.

Any ideas? I might just dump it since its so old, or relegate it to the garage to do car cleaning duty.
