Internal Power Cord connection
« on: June 22, 2012, 08:42:53 pm »
Trying to replace internal power cord to motor, motor has a black wire and a red wire, the power cord has a black wire and a white wire.  Does the white wire connect to the red wire on the motor and the black wire connect to the black wire on the motor.

Thanks for your help

These are US colour codes I believe.

Internationally, the wires from motors tend to be red and black. Red being live and black being neutral. (I think you call the live wire the hot wire over the pond?)

US domestic single phase wiring is black and white. If my memory serves correctly, black is hot (live) in the US.

Accordingly, the likely connection would be red motor wire to cord black and black motor wire to cord white.
