DC20 On/Off Switch Problems
« on: June 27, 2012, 08:02:45 pm »
Hi Everybody,

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on a problem I'm having with my DC20.

It's a great little machine and has gone through hell and high water with me however it now won't stay on unless I hold the on/off switch down with a bit of tape.

I'm not sure if I should be looking to replace the switch itself, the actuator or both - don't even know how to get the thing apart!

Any advice would be really appreciated!

Cheers

If you need to hold it down with tape, it will be the switch itself. The switches are the same on most models, so you should be able to buy a DC04/7/14 one and it will be fine.

I've also got exactly the same problem with my DC20, and like the original poster can't work out how to get into it to get under the on/off switch and see if I can fix it.  I've managed to remove 2 star screws (using a flathead screwdriver) from under the washable filter, however this does not seem to release the top half of the machine which has a join around and looks/feels like it should be removable.  Does anyone know how to get into this DC20 animal?!!

For anyone with the same problem, I've worked out how to get into the DC20!!  Thanks to this vid - see attached.  It's for a DC08, but the machine is very similar and it's exactly the same principal.
