Dismantling DC01 Cyclone and Upper Body Housing?
« on: July 18, 2012, 09:24:46 am »
I've been given a tatty but working DC01 which needs a good strip down and clean after being used (abused) for a builder's clean up. I've got the lower cyclone out of the bin, but can't see how to separate the top half from the bin handle/lid. There is a Torx screw on the back at the top, but undoing this does not seem to release anything? I can't see a way to clean the upper cyclone without getting further in.
Secondly, having removed the swivelling soleplate and cradle, how do I then remove the upper body housing from the chassis/motor surround?

PS: I can unclip one side of the housing, but I can't see how to release the other side which fits around the motor shaft.

Thanks, I've now managed to release it, it just needed a bit more levering. Still none the wiser on dismantling the upper cyclone though.

Here is how to do it.

First, remove this screw:

The valve housing is held in with a type of silicone glue. Prise it off gently. I use two screwdrivers.

Having done that, it now looks like this:

The inner cyclone can now be prised out - it is very tight.

The cyclone will split further like so.

That's what I do to clean them.

To re-affix the valve housing, I glue it back with Evo Stick, tape it round and leave it overnight. It wants to be air tight.

They were not really designed to be stripped down.

Does that help?
