electrical flex problem twice in a week
« on: August 06, 2012, 10:08:43 am »
We have a DC07 animal.

last it week stopped mid flight, checked fuse ok so started to check a few more bits. Turned out there was no continuity down the cable from the plug to the on/off switch. Having a spare machine I just swapped the wire complete with plug right up to the switch and the spade on the neutral wire, bingo all worked fine and has done for about a week. This morning same thing, stopped, checked and no continuity down the positive wire.

I'm finding it hard to get my head round that I have hit the same fault twice in a week without there being an under lying fault, any ideas.

cheers, Andy

Unusual coincidence, but by no means impossible, as they all tend to break either at the plug entry or chassis entry point, where the stress is greatest. You can try shortening the cable at the affected end as a cheaper fix than a new cable.

cut plug off along with 6 inch off wire, renewed plug and now works. I think it's a very unusual coincidence, just have to see what happens :-\

It should be fine as long as the break is not at the chassis entry end. Eventually they all go there as well.

Andy, in case you wanted a second opinion, Macman above is right on the money in all his comments.

Macman, you are an asset to the forum.

Thanks Angus, but most of what I know is due to your excellent DC07 workshop manual. I have recently done a motor change on a DC07, which I wouldn't have felt confident about before reading that.
