DC04 Brush Not Spinning

Hi,

Is this likely to be the clutch that needs replacing?

Thanks

Hi,

It might just be one of the clutch belts that need replacing - would work out cheaper than replacing the whole clutch if so.

It's a cost vs. convenience scenario here really. If it's the brushbar belt that needs replacing (the more difficult of the two), it can be a bit of a fiddle but there are tutorials available on the web showing how it's done. A new clutch would pretty much just slot on in there!

Before you go spending out any money - does the brushbar spin freely?

Hi

Yes the brush bar still spins freely when turned by hand

The second hand clutches are advertised at £9ish on Manchester vacs so replacing the belts won't be much cheaper, is there a way of telling if it's just the belts?

If the brushbar turns freely by hand then it certainly sounds like an issue with the clutch.

Once you remove the clutch cover (this will need to come off to replace the whole clutch anyway)  it will be pretty obvious if one of the belts has snapped as you'll have a clear view of the clutch assembly.

Good luck

Many people don't know it shouldn't turn when upright. And many people inadvertently turn the clutch off.
