DC05 Cable Rewind
« on: August 26, 2012, 07:39:39 pm »
Hi All,

New member here, so please excuse me if this question has been asked already. I've already looked through all the forums and can't see anything relating to my query, but I can see that it looks like a goldmine of information for Dyson owners. So thumbs-up from me

I have a DC05 grey/yellow model and find that the cord rewind is rather sluggish, and needs quite a bit of coaxing in order to get the cable to retract fully. It's been like this since new, so I don't think it's faulty, just naff!

Before I start taking the unit apart, I was wondering if it was possible to increase the tension on the cord winder somehow. I'm thinking perhaps uncoiling it fully, and then give it a couple or three more turns in order to tighten the spring further. Or perhaps there is a way to disassemble the winder itself and go from there?

If anyone could advise how to do this, or if it's even possible, that would be a big help.

Cheers,

Kirk

They are a pain to take apart and so tightly sprung that if it goes it will take your eye out!

We don't bother trying to tweak them any more as its very labour intensive.

Thanks MV, the idea of having the mechanism twang apart on me doesn't appeal for some reason, so I'll leave it be for now. As I said, it's been like this from new, so perhaps it's best not to go looking for trouble and possibly creating even more :o

Cheers,

Kirk
