Hi Every body
Here in South Africa we get a lot of people returning from the USA and UK with their Dysons, a lot of them DC07 models.
Dyson SA refers them to me as the repair agent.
We convert the USA models to 220 volt by replacing the motor.
The main differences are as follows:
Motor, apart from been 110 volt, is a Panasonic motor and has different mounting rubbers.
Brush roll area
Here is where they differ the most.
Brush roll has stiffer bristles which clean better and lift the pile (kind of like the old Hoover Turbo Masters/Powers used to)
The brush roll housing has a more protruding lip and is slightly longer.
The sole plate is longer and covers the debris channel completely.
It also has a much larger (almost double the UK model) opening in it.
I have a special test area in my workshop where I test new models for various vacuum companies to make sure they can handle South Africa's conditions.
I put the machines to test there and the USA version has much better "on the floor suction" than a UK model.
It even feels more planted on the carpet.
The only other difference between the USA and UK models is the cyclone top.
The USA model has a special safety latch which prevents you from accidently releasing the cyclone assembly while carrying the vacuum thereby dropping the machine on your foot and obliterating it (Your foot, not the vacuum)...
However, it makes trying to remove the cyclone for emptying a task, especially if you are used to a UK model.
They probably put it there to prevent a lawsuit ...
It is possible to disengage the cyclone assembly while carrying the machine on the UK model but you have to really try hard.
I have had a dc07 for years and have even used one in my carpet cleaning business that I owned and never not once whilst picking it up out vans, going up and down stairs, being bashed around did I ever manage to do this.
