About American Market Models of DC07's
« on: September 20, 2010, 02:58:42 pm »
We are supplying more and more parts to the US now from our site. It has come to light that there are differences between European and US models of DC07. Can anyone who is familiar with both give us a run down of the differences that exist please? Most especially in relation to the brush bar and sole plates.

Hi Every body

Here in South Africa we get a lot of people returning from the USA and UK with their Dysons, a lot of them DC07 models.
Dyson SA refers them to me as the repair agent.
We convert the USA models to 220 volt by replacing the motor.

The main differences are as follows:

Motor, apart from been 110 volt, is a Panasonic motor and has different mounting rubbers.

Brush roll area
Here is where they differ the most.

Brush roll has stiffer bristles which clean better and lift the pile (kind of like the old Hoover Turbo Masters/Powers used to)

The brush roll housing has a more protruding lip and is slightly longer.

The sole plate is longer and covers the debris channel completely.
It also has a much larger (almost double the UK model) opening in it.

I have a special test area in my workshop where I test new models for various vacuum companies to make sure they can handle South Africa's conditions.
I put the machines to test there and the USA version has much better "on the floor suction" than a UK model.
It even feels more planted on the carpet.

The only other difference between the USA and UK models is the cyclone top.
The USA model has a special safety latch which prevents you from accidently releasing the cyclone assembly while carrying the vacuum thereby dropping the machine on your foot and obliterating it (Your foot, not the vacuum)...

However, it makes trying to remove the cyclone for emptying a task, especially if you are used to a UK model.

They probably put it there to prevent a lawsuit ...  ::)

It is possible to disengage the cyclone assembly while carrying the machine on the UK model but you have to really try hard.

I have had a dc07 for years and have even used one in my carpet cleaning business that I owned and never not once whilst picking it up out vans, going  up and down stairs, being bashed around did I ever manage to do this.

Some late UK DC07 models have that system too. The picture below that you sent me over is an interchangeable variant of the DC07 top here; it must be standard in the US.

The sole plate photo highlights the differences well. The one on the left being the US variant.

The brushroll housing looks to be the same as the DC14? A DC14 body housing being the same as a DC07 one, that would make sense. The DC14 sits more forward like the US variant on the left of the picture below.

Hi
Thank you for posting those for me, The USA dc14 brush housing sits even more forward than the SA model we get here and the UK  model.

That saftey latch seems to be standard in the USA, had a few like that from the USA already.
Got a black dc07 in the other day from over their. You were right they look good

What's this blinking red light that some US machines have? The UK models do not have this.
