DC14 - Noisy, replaced clutch. Still noisy.
« on: October 09, 2012, 04:12:23 pm »
A few days ago my DC14 started making the noise it does when the brush bar is clogged. I removed it and cleaned all the string and what not out of it and put it back in. It still did the same thing after that. So I did a little googling and found that its fairly common for the clutch to go out so I replaced it last night and it's still doing the same thing. What else could it be? I'd rather not have to take it for repair.

Thanks

I noticed when I stripped down my DC27 which is fairly similar that there are two bearings inside the brush bar, you pull one end off and the other has a long shaft that passes through those bearings...is it possible that one of them is breaking up.
Just a thought as you seem to have covered everything else.
Good luck.

That's what my next suggestion would have been too - pull the end caps off the brushbar and remove any dust, dirt, fluff that's accumulated in the ends. Once clear give the bearings a squirt with some WD40 and see if that loosens them up when you spin the brushbar.

I find WD40 has a drying effect before too long. Better to use a little 3 in 1 oil or similar.

However, end bearings and-or brushrolls are not expensive.
