DC04 refurbished!!!!!
« on: December 13, 2012, 10:23:44 pm »
I have finished doing my second dyson refurbishment on the DC04 Absolute Purple Lime model, i previously did a DC01 Absolute about 5 years ago but that sadly came to the end of its life and ended up as a doner Dyson!!!!

I have stripped it down into every possible piece, cleaned and stripped the cyclone, floor head/brush roll/clutch, and also the spine. I have replaced the wand as it was snapped got a new tool set with thanks to manchester vacs, replaced the belts in the clutch and also the switch housing and cable protector as it had the old style one fitted.

But already i am thinking of getting another DC01 to try and restore to a "like new" condition!!!

I have included a couple of pics of my Absolute for you all to see my work, hope you like it :)

Very nice too.

Bringing stuff back from the dead always appealed to me, one reason we do what we do now. We were green before it became fashionable.

In years gone by, we used to rebuild Mercedes vans. But as one gets older, one seeks stuff that doesn't involve lying on the floor under a van by the M60 in a thunderstorm at two degrees Celsius.  :chuckle:

As well as our usual Dyson vacuums, we are enjoying playing with Airblades at the moment. And I just ordered a Dyson hot - partly because we have a cold house, and partly because I want to take it to pieces to see how it runs.  :-X

The DC04 was how I got started in the job. I had been in and out of vacuums since the late eighties, but back when DC04's were new, I did a deal with some bloke and shipped in an articulated lorry full of them from overseas. We kept one or two for home use of course, and eventually I just had to take it to bits to see how it ticked........ because if you spent your life taking stuff to bits to see what makes it go, you do that......

The DC04 was such a good machine that we occasionally get one in for a job or a service that I originally sold way back when. And we still sell recon ones today. As an old machine nowadays, they take a lot of work to make them dead right now (as you no doubt know absolutepurplelime), but people still love them!

Make sure you get a swivel soleplate one; the fixed soleplate ones you will struggle for some bits for. Soleplates are like gold dust now.

We had a very clean DC01 De Stijl recently. It came with all the original tools, books, everything. We made that like new, I made a post and it went in a heartbeat. We also got a new DC01 in the box and that went just as fast.

thank you very much for the pleasant reply!!!!! I saw your upload of the Dc01 standard in November, i could not believe it, i was thinking earlier how many units that are still floating around that are still boxed..... :S I am pretty sure people would have purchased them and kept them as a bit of great British history!!!! i can remember many many years ago when i was at primary school when the Dyson malark had just started, we had a "pirate ship" that was made out of a DC01 standard box! i was much more interested in the large picture of the dyson on the front than the so called "boat"..... I just wish id of asked for the box lol

Just a quick update, I stripped the clutch tonight and fitted a pair of new belts, got full grip now no slipping :) also fitted the revised switch housing that is compatible with the new style cord protector for the DC04! It cleans like an absolute dream!!!!!

Without any disrespect towards my trusty DC24 it really does kick it's back side when it comes to cleaning power. So pleased its working, DC01 time soon I thinks :) :)

I've never been a great fan of the DC24 myself.
