DC25 Brush Bar starting and stopping?
« on: January 21, 2013, 06:45:04 pm »
While vacuuming carpet, the brush bar will start and stop spinning sporadically. When it used to kick off while using it, I was able to angle the handle/body and it would kick back on. Now it won't even do this, but you can hear a clicking noise almost as if it wants to kick back on. The last few weeks I have had to drive it into the floorboard/wall to give it a good whack so the brush bar kicks back on. But, it's really hit or miss and this "technique" won't always work now either.

There is nothing stuck in the brush bar and I haven't sucked anything up or rolled over something large. I have rattled it and taken it apart, shook it and used all of my "mechanical skills" that I have.

I took apart the head and the belt is in tip top shape.

The motor appears ok and does not smell as if anything is burning.

What could this be? Is there a sensor that is kicking on and off? Is there a loose part? Could it be the motor?

Any info would be great!

Likely a wire feeding the cleaner head has broken up or perhaps the micro switch is dodgy. It needs stripping down and investigating really. That's not a fault we often see.

Others may have encountered it more.....

What exactly should I be looking for? A loose part on the brush bar or something loose in the motor?

Or is this something a shop would have to fix?

With the fault you describe, unless you are experienced in taking these apart and have electrical knowledge, I would recommend taking it to a shop on this occasion.

Yes, it needs a proper strip and bench test. This doesn't sound like a DIY job.

Check if it is still in warranty. In the US Dyson are on 1-866-693-9766 (1-866-MY-DYSON). They will fix it for free if you are lucky.

I had an intermittent fault with the brush bar on my DC25, I stripped it down and checked all the switches, eventually found the fault, broken wire running from the upright micro switch to the brush head

Yes, it was the white wire, just like a previous post I saw earlier.
