Dyson Ball DC24
« on: March 25, 2013, 10:04:54 pm »
Hi, new to the site but I found the info on replacing the ball motor invaluable. I ordered the motor and the service was 2nd to none.......many thanks. The DC24 is now working fine.

I ran a continuity check on the Green Component shown in this picture on the old motor and it was open circuit...hence the old motor failed.

I'm interested to know what this component is........maybe a suppressor or thermal overload? Just interested and would appreciate your feedback.

Yes, its a suppressor and a thermal cut out.  :icon_nod:

Thanks for the reply....now the question, can the item be replaced or can one buy the complete connection pack.

If it's a thermal cut out......what would cause the thermal overload ?

You can replace them, but the only time you really ever need to is if a motor is cutting out inexplicably - which is seldom.

I am not sure you can get the one from that particular motor though unless a used one. I think they [the TOC] differ slightly to standard YDK ones.

The thermal cut out usually triggers when the motor overheats, which is typically when a machine is run with blocked filters.

Thanks for the reply !

All very strange as the ball filter, and the top filter were both well cleaned 48 hours before the breakdown and were well dry.

Pain having to replace a motor for a part that would probably cost <£2.00, life gets tedious don't it!.......cya.
