DC24 On button and brushbar button
« on: April 01, 2013, 08:36:30 pm »
The brushbar was not operating, and the clear buttonat the top of the cleaner was not clicking on. I disassembled the main switch assembly and the switch was sticking. AFter a couple of clicks it stopped. However on reassembly the main switch will switch the cleaner on but will not stay down. Looks like I have  not set up the little mechanism inside correctly.
I am curious, are the switches inside click on click off or just on when pressed? I am just out of warranty and this cleaner has not had a lot of hard work.

The main power and brushbar switch are both the same "on" and "off" switch. They are identical.

The mechanism inside (the white lever and the spring) control how they operate together.

The way they work is that when the red button is depressed, the silver one goes down with it. When the machine is then switched off, the silver one stays depressed so it comes on by default. The silver one can also be switched off manually.

Can I clarify this please:
Press the red button for on, again for off. The button springs up after both actions.
With the cover removed...
The cleaner comes on when the switch itself is pressed once but does not stay on when the switch is released.
As the button does not hold the switch on for the cleaner to run, so the switch must be faulty. I should order a replacement. Note that I swapped the switches and still get the same problem, are both switches faulty?
Cheers

Its unlikely both switches are faulty. Possible but unlikely.

Try them in your fingers out of the machine, see if they remain visibly depressed when on.

I suspect its how you have put the mechanism back together.

Both switches complete a circuit when depressed
When I stop pressing, the buttons don't stay down, and the circuit is broken
(confirmed wired in and with meter)

Must be the switches then if you did what I said.

did what you said.
got two new switches, they stay down when clicked
now the vac works fine
both switches not working, perhaps Dyson need a more reliable part
gutted the broken switches, has the little rectangular metal wire shape come out of  its recess to stop the switch from working?
giving up on getting it back in as I can get a new one for £3 next time
thanks MVacs
