Dyson DC01 Restoration
« on: April 05, 2013, 01:08:11 am »
Hey all. I've started refurbishing older Dyson models so they look like new again, Started out with a DC04 purple lime. Did a DC07 all floors (the one with nice blue coloured trim) last week. I have just finished my £6.50 ebay special DC01 silver yellow!! Looks absolutely brilliant and would appreciate some nice comments.

See pics below :)

About a day all together, just been into Town this morning for a belt and some filters. Couldn't wait to use it but I'm going to order a few bits for it off mvacs. :)

Also fitted with an amtek motor! No orange spark or obvious wear, I think it's been owned by someone who's looked after it because it only had a few surface blemishes which I have now removed, it hasn't gone that horrible brown colour either which is good. The sole plate looks pretty new also the stretch hose and wand look like they have been recently replaced. It just had the usual dust at the bottom of the filter chamber, worn belts, new set of filters.

The suction isnt as strong as the DC04 or 07 but I expected that as it was the first dual cyclone invented.

Thanks muchly, I love it! Gonna give it light use though as its in its older days now, I had a couple when I was younger, but the dc01 absolute! But I wasn't kean as the small hepa used to overheat the motor, even with a new filter in place! I found it also melted the actual area on the casing where the filter sat.

I do have a question as i haven't had a dc01 for about 10 years, the suction is no way near as good as my dc04. I have stripped the cyclone checked air ways, all sealed correctly etc! The suction is good just not amazing but I suppose it is a very old machine!!! Is this normal???

:)

Ah that's ok then, I was worried it wasn't working correctly, my DC04 was a rescue dyson aswell lol. :)

I'm starting a collection, prefer the uprights so what do you think I should get next, would like an 03 but I no they aren't amazingly powerful. Might get a clutched DC07, I've uploaded a pic of my the DC07 I refurbished before the DC01... :)

That bin is the original in the first pic, give it a good clean with just some sort of cleaner. Dry it out with an old towel, spray wd40 inside the bin! You can drown it it you like lol! Rub it around the bin with kitchen roll or again an old towel, i leave it so that its nearly dry. Just don't use the dyson for a couple of hours and it just seems to dry to the bin leaving a really good finish! Do me a before and after if you attempt it, I'm gonna do my dc24 soon so Il do you some pics :)

Done you some more pics at the bottom, and sorry everyone I no it's  :offtopic:

Those are excellent pics - they look easily as good as our reconditioned machines. You did a good job.

I'll take that DC01 and the DC04 if you are selling them at reasonable money. Send me a PM.

I don't use WD40 I use Back to Black, does an excellent job on the clear bins.
