DC07 sole plate/brush bar incompatabilities
« on: April 08, 2013, 04:52:50 pm »
Hello all,
I've been fixing a rather aged DC07 for a friend and during the course of the repairs I replaced the brush bar, sole plate & belt. I noticed that after fitting the new sole plate ( the old one was very worn and the rubber strip seals were missing) that there was a loud noise from the brush bar assembly which did not occur with the old sole plate?  I had a close look and discovered that the new sole plate had 2 extra fore & aft plastic bars. I assume for added strength?....The new sole plate had 2 'strengthening' bars to the right of the belt and one to the left. (looking from the bottom forwards) whereas the old sole plat had only one 'strengthening' bar to the right of the belt and non to the left.
The upshot of this was that 3 radial rows of  brushes  fouled these extra bars. I cut off the brushes which fouled the 'strengthening' bars flush with the brush bar and the noise disappeared.!
I wonder if anyone else has come across this?..... Did I buy a non Dyson Brush Bar or a non Dyson sole plate or both or has there been a design change?  Sorry if this has been the subject of any previous discussion.
                                                              regards
                                                                     John

The non genuine brush bars sometimes have one of two bristles that sometimes need trimming a millimetre or two; depending on application (as they fit three different machines).

Likewise, some soleplates made after-market are also designed to fit several machines so the bars can be in different places sometimes.

You may surmise this is for legal reasons. You may think that if an after-market manufacturer made them absolutely identical, Dyson would gleefully sue them, but I couldn't possibly comment........  :-X
