DC02 On/Off Switch

Hello all, new here. We have an old DC02, been a great cleaner, gave me grief today, went "poof/pop" and wouldn't start. Thought the poof/pop was a fuse, but the wall socket was fine.
In the end curiosity got the better of me, and I have it dismantled on the work bench. In doing this the leads have come free from the inn/off switch, and I could use some help with what lead goes to what terminal on the switch.
The realist in me says this won't fix it, but I need to try this first, before I dump it.
My electrical (using a multi-meter) is zip, I can perform a continuity test of course, but watts/ohms, etc, forget it.
Anyone able to point me to a picture or explain which coloured lead goes to what terminal. Please.

Are the wires feeding the switch both the same colour? Is it a two or four terminal switch?

That doesn't sound standard.
Can you post a photo of the switch terminals and the wires that feed it please?

Appreciative of your help, we couldn't be further apart, globally.
Pictures attached (I hope).
The four wires are black, red, dark blue, and brown, or close to it.
The switch has a total of four spade connector posts. On each side there are letters "D" and "E". A pair of D and E in other words.
Thank you again.

That's a really early one. Our tech needs to answer that on Monday really. Unless anyone else knows meanwhile..........
What is standard live and neutral colours in Oz? Are you on red/black? brown/blue? Or something else?

Yep, an early on alright, we've had it for ages. It's demise meant I had to buy a replacement, and get a DC39 in it's place. I'd still like to repair this one, a great hand-me-down.
I didn't have a clue what coloured wires we have in NZ (not Oz) but checked and saw this

I'll sit tight until your boffins decision on Monday. A good excuse not to vacuum the floors anyway.

I see from that you have both brown and red as lives there and blue and black as neutral. Similar to here.
I PM'd SmartAlec for you and linked him the topic. He is an Aussie with a Dyson shop. I also PMd a guy in South Africa, he knows loads too.

Although we don't have that wiring configuration here on DC02's, the wiring codes appear the same so it *should* be like this......

Wow, thank you, for some reason I missed this, didn't receive a notification that there was a reply.
Again, thank you. I'll give this a go.

And an update. A huge thank you to all that helped, I really am greatly appreciative.
Firstly, I connected the on/off switch in the manner that was pictured above. Curiosity then got the better of me. While my use and knowledge of a multi-meter is very limited, I tried the continuity test on the power cord, to see if there was continuity between the AC plug and the switch. There was on one side but the other not. In the end I traced it to a "break" in the cable, between the power cord coming in, and the centre hub. The gut feeling is that stress from pulling the cord out has severed the blue cable, not really that visible, but enough to give the issue.
In the end I cut the lead off, and re-did the whole area where it attaches.
I was surprised as all get out when I powered it up, and it worked. Yessssss.
Thank you all again.
