Title: Miele extension rod collapsing
Post by: Walker on August 27, 2019, 12:42:51 pm
Hi,

I have a telescopic extension rod (Miele p/n 09265991) which has suddenly (and I mean was fine yesterday and is now useless) started collapsing.

The rod won't take any forward pressure without the ratchet slipping, it is however steady as a rock in the other direction. It doesn't appear to be a problem with the track on the rod as no one hole is any better/worse than any other. So the issue appears to be at the locking mechanism.

I have popped off the button, but the mechanism itself seems to be firmly locked down and I can't get into it. Do I need to replace the whole extension tube (@£55)?

I have seen a couple of vague mentions on-line that the problem might be solved with a button repair kit (p/n 5780932 - £10). When I apply some firm pressure to the locking mechanism with my thumb it is steady in both directions, so it might be that the spring is shot and needs replacing with the repair kit.

Has anyone else had this issue and solved it?

TIA,

Walker

We don't do many Miele but this does crop up on Sebos occasionally, and there is a button repair kit for those that fixes it.

Beko probably knows more about these than me.

You can source Miele pattern metal wands on eBay. I have bought a couple in the past and they are generally good quality, and do the job for about a third of the cost of the genuine part.

I've had some of the button kits and their fine but I've only ever used it when missing completely... Never to fix a worn one...

Tayyab of these forums had a brand new miele blizzard and miele sent him a new tube not long after as it kept collapsing.

Id play it safe and get a pattern one as above or a used set from ebay... I've never seperate a miele telescope wand before, it could be that button, it could not.

If you think it's the spring, stretch it out so it's maybe 1/4 bigger than it was and reassemble! Failing that ask mvacs to post you a dc04/7 wand latch spring or similar their nice and stiff and about the same circumfrence

Tried stretching the spring, but it didn't work. Tried packing the spring to make it shorter in the hole, also didn't work.

In the end I got a used replacement off eBay. Swapping the button assemblies over made no difference. So looks like the problem is in the inaccessible part of the clutch mechanism. If I get really bored I might autopsy the dead one to see how it works and what the issue was.

But problem is solved.

Thx for help all

My button on my Miele extension tube broke so I have sent for a replacement. Now I am not able to fit it having followed the instructions as shown. Can anyone tell me if the little black button that is fixed to the metal tube, should rise above the hole? mine looks like it is broken. Any help appreciated
