Title: Vacuum Cleaner Museum: Manchester - Stockport - Tameside
Post by: MVacs on May 12, 2016, 03:51:12 pm
As some will know, we have earmarked an area of our shop for a Dyson museum. We are building up a collection of refurbished and/or new old stock Dysons and have many of the rarest machines Dyson ever made.

Anyone interested enough to want a look is welcome (preferably not Monday or Thursday mornings please). You can find us >>here<< (https://manchestervacs.co.uk/find-us). It doesn't cost anything, but we have a charity collection box you are welcome to bung a couple of quid in.

As we get different machines finished, I will add some extra photos.

Here is a silver and orange DC04 Constant Max we got finished a few days ago.

Here is a purple and magenta limited edition Meningitis model we got finished today.

I'll add more as the museum develops and we have more machines ready for it.

They look absolutely stunning! I think the pink Dc04 would look nicer in a circular grey plug though :P

I am actually quite fond of the constant max after seeing your pics! All because of the smashing job you did  :icon_nod:
How often do you get these in your shop?

I think we are doing two 001's from the best of three machines (one an early Chippenham [pre Malmesbury] made one), and that is one of them.

I am actually quite fond of the constant max after seeing your pics! All because of the smashing job you did :icon_nod:

Very seldom we see them actually. Certainly, very seldom we see them as clean as that one.

For those interested in the rebuild topics on some of those above, here they are:

Shame, wish here were more of these around
I think Dyson should bring out another commercial machine because the 04 was pretty good. I imagine a DC14 constant max which is brilliant! All t needs it a more reliable motor really

These ones are not for sale; they are for looking at.

We do very few DC04s to sell now - they are worth more to us in spares than to refurb when we get them.

Thinking about it,  there's quite a few still to go,  and I agree,  you do t want to sit on a whole machine thats worth more in parts

Two more machines added to the collection. A DC11 in one of the lesser-seen colour variants (still need a crevice tool for this if anyone has one?).

[attachimg=1 width=500]

And a 1969 Hoover Junior U1346.

[attachimg=2 width=500]

The restoration of which is documented with photos and videos by Beko here: Hoover Junior U1346 (December 1969) - Restoration (https://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php/topic,2617.0.html).

Glad they arrived safely! Do we get a video of the Junior cleaning the shop?

At least you have the Hoover that started James Dyson on the road to world domination,  it was one of this shape that he used for his prototypes!

Plus,  it would kick a dc50s backside...

A nice addition to the museum arrived today.

Model: 1938 Bustler Goliath - manufactured by Vacuum Ltd. Birmingham, .no 00319

We have the original HP card showing it cost £11 to be paid in 10 shilling installments, first payment was July 1938 with payments through to 1940. It also has the letter of completion from Vacuums Ltd.

It is totally complete in great original condition.

Don't know, but it looks weird, should the bend be at the hose?

I know what you mean. Is the lower pole a different colour/thickness too?

It's still beautiful though!

The poles are the same material and fit into each other correctly. It could be either/or or the other way around?

It's not one of those machines where the bend goes at the bottom by the floor tool is it? I've seen American machines with that setup. All depends on the angle of the floor head I suppose

A couple of additions in recent months I didn't note here.

A Japanese DC12, of which there is a small video of >>here<< (https://www.instagram.com/p/BSJF-yDA9X4/).

A DC24 Drawing to go with the DC25 one (https://www.instagram.com/p/BTlWrS_gyGg/?taken-by=manchestervacs).

A DC18 built from new parts (https://www.instagram.com/p/BSBfUaMgCFW/?taken-by=manchestervacs).

A red and silver DC07 (https://www.instagram.com/p/BPxDQlFgbnh/?taken-by=manchestervacs) we thought we'd save as they getting thinner on the ground than they were in this condition.

I'm after a DC07 Low Reach I think they are getting rarer around the West Midlands :/ I have an 07i which needs a few bits tho

a DC07 Low Reach

The red and purple one? I agree you dont see too many of those either.

I have two nice DC15s on the shop floor I have had ages (too big and probably too expensive @ £145). We very seldom see nice ones of those now so I think I will reappropriate them, one for our museum and one possibly for the collection in the Q boardroom. Being reconned already, they won't take much work to make them even better. DC15s seem to have suddenly dropped off the radar the last year or so.
Title: Re: Vacuum Cleaner Museum: Manchester - Stockport - Tameside
Post by: Parwaz7862 on July 31, 2017, 11:20:42 am
Yep the red and purple ones, beautiful but becoming rare :/ It's odd a certain variant of DC07 is becoming rare even though DC07s are still very popular to this day, I bet every street in Britain has at least 1 DC07, possibly. They sold extremely well and had a long 8/9 years of production ;D

I want a nice DC15 Allergy, had one but needed an original wand and hose which I couldn't get ahold of cheap enough for me so sold it on, hopefully I'll get another.

Post by: Dysonboy on July 31, 2017, 02:13:19 pm
I had a DC07 low reach I'm purple and red, it was so faded on the head that as soon as I touched it it snapped, converted the machine to a dc07 de stijl that was never originalky made (idea from MVacs) and then the other day whilst restoring my absolute purple lime dc04 I used the spare head from my donor to make it nolonger have a silver head.

Three rare Sebo vacuums have crept into our museum.

There is a yellow Sebo X4 (https://seboshop.co.uk/blog/yellow-sebo-x4-vacuum-cleaner/).

[attachimg=1 width=500]

A see-through Sebo X4 (https://seboshop.co.uk/blog/sebo-automatic-x4-clear-vacuum-transparent/).

[attachimg=2 width=500]

And a dark blue and grey Sebo X1 (https://seboshop.co.uk/blog/replace-sebo-x1-vacuum-cleaner/).

[attachimg=3]

Another recent addition to our museum is one of the rarest Dyson vacuums ever, the Dyson DC06.

[attachimg=4 width=500]

There is an article on that one here on the forum you can read >>here<< (https://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php/topic,3599.msg29381.html#msg29381).

Hi I just have a quick question regarding the purple and magenta dc04.
I have just purchased one from eBay and it’s arriving sometime this week.
However I have noticed that on the cleanerhead it doesn’t have the telescope sticker in the bottom left corner and on the bin handle it doesn’t say special edition it just says absolute plus.
Does this mean that it’s a later run machine without those specific stickers?
And if so does the machine even have a correlation to the meningitis charity like the earlier ones did as I just assumed that all the dc04s made in this colour scheme help the meningitis charity but I could be wrong due to the reasons I’ve stated. I’m inclined to believe they do as I’ve seen one in new condition online without the telescope sticker and it still came with a manual in the meningitis colours and shows the specific machine with the blurb at the top reading “help fight meningitis”
I would appreciate any wisdom on this query

It has the Absolute+ filter so it's still relevant. It wouldn't have a telescope reach sticker as that was introduced on the DC14. It could be a later model if there's less stickers on it and if the cyclone has one sticker which is usually filly silver and if the wand cap is the later type with no spring. AFAIK the DC04s in this colour scheme are only for the charity hence the colour scheme

Remember, the earlier the DC04, the more information on it. The early pink DC04s had a pic of a microscope I think on the head with the charity label or something similar, off the top of my head. I have a 1998 Absolute+ and that has all sorts of stickers such as safety features, two cyclone stickers, a filter wash sticker reminder, the helpline was also literally just above the cyclone catch on early models to, on the body.

It sounds like you may probably have a later version there, I'd be happy as the earlier ones have terrible plastic quality.

Unfortunately, due to us starting to outgrow our current premises, we need every bit of space we can get, so our museum is being removed in its current form to make space for a bigger packing area.

Some machines have been sold already, many are going to be bagged up and sent to our storage facility.

The rarest like the G-Force and the DC06 will still be here. And our favourite vintage Hoovers will stay too (and two are in a cabinet in our entrance).

But the museum in its current form with public access will not be a thing as of next week.

The DC03 Clear is staying.

I might sell the US Dyson DC17 and DC28. There's a new DC05 I'm thinking of selling and I'm toying with selling the DC11, DC12, DC15 and DC02s. Also a refurbed blue DC01 in its box (https://www.instagram.com/p/BqcPLSDlLRG/).

We've no time at all to do much this last year or so its been so busy. So priorities need to change as we rationalise and refocus what we do in order not to have to move again too soon.

That 262 will be staying when it one day lands back.  :whist11:

Just unboxed this absolute beast can’t believe how well it looks. I’m even more impressed with it in person it just looks like a dc14 that’s Been improved in every way. All I’ve got to do now Is buy a step-down transformer (can’t decide whether to go for the 3kw one for the sake of a tenner) also has the machine had a new hose on it looks brand new?

Thanks for this I can’t wait to try it this brushroll looks beastly, I only have Dyson cleaners as well so I reckon it’ll pick up some rubbish.

It will have been washed when our chaps went over it.

I'd get the transformer with the correct outlets on. For a tenner more, you're future-proofing yourself to be able to use any other machine you may buy later on.

Glad you like it.

The dc17 is an amazing machine, I've got one too! I'd rate it above my Kirby Sentria 2 for deep down aggressive cleaning! Took it round to my mums new bungalow (with the 110v transformer) and filled the bin 3 times throughout, and it's only a small one! Carpet was transformed! Hope you enjoy it.
