Title: Building a Pristine Dyson DC04 De Stijl to Store.
Post by: MVacs on August 08, 2014, 02:27:46 pm
As we recently did a DC01 De Stijl (https://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php/topic,1158.0.html) for posterity, we came across a good candidate for a DC04 De Stijl to do the same with recently.

So here it is in bits about to be washed.

The best cleaner head we have of about twelve is being buffed as I write.

More photos to follow.

Just looking through what we have, we have De Stijl brush tools and a red crevice but not a stair tool.

Does anyone have a red and purple stair tool in very good condition? We'll buy it or swap it for something else that you want of greater value.

I need the stair tool that matches one of these........

Amazon has some brand new De Stijl DC04 Parts, including a cleaner head in red!

We can still get new red cleaner heads; there is still old stock around of those. But the one we cleaned up is looking just fine now. All we really need is a red and purple stair tool.

The machine is coming back together now and will be finished next week.

Brand new genuine brushroll in there as we happened to have one with purple bristles. Waiting on new soleplate wheels that we had ran out of.

I found a DC04 Destijl stair tool!
I know it's a joblot, but you can always ask if they can let you take that tool, or because you are a Dyson business, it would be ideal for you to buy the joblot anyways? ;D

Just given a tenner for a tidy working DC01 De Stijl. All it needs is a Hepa filter cover and come to think of it, probably a Hepa filter too. Not one to sell, one to mothball. Can anyone help???

No help here I'm afraid, I have my dc01 HEPA filter, normal filters and a pack of belts ready to be packed for tomorrow when I get to see mine!

The filter cover is rare I think, bad luck (hope mine isn't broken too...)

Cheers Beko, nevermind. After a while these sort of things just present themselves.

I broke my Dyson DC01 De Stijl HEPA filter cover the other day too!
Gotta put the bin in properly into the cyclone, you gonna make sure the bin insert is in correctly too or else it will be  a bit wonky and you dont realise and SNAP goes your HEPA filter cover catch

You can get away with a yellow one on one of those. The odd one still crops up on ebay. Red ones are hens teeth.

Thanks Parwaz. Well spotted!  :tiphat:

His stair tool photo looks promising blown up.

I just bought that lot. I guess we got our stair tool. Hopefully the other stuff will make it free over time.

All the tools look in good condition, no missing lint strips that I could see, you should break even!

We are always short of good stair tools for DC14's that, as you will know, need to be original if they are to actually fit. We have lots of brush tools, but few stairs. There is a DC05 head that we have some on eBay of, so another one in that pile which will be about a net £6 back.

With a DC07 Animal turbine tool and a few other bits in there, it will likely be OK. I'd have given a tenner for the stair tool alone (as its a project), so if the other bits stack up as expected, I guess we are in the black.

I'd have liked that job lot cheaper really, but I couldn't pass up that De Stijl stair tool as it's a rare thing. I have already had Dyson Doctor (of eBay) and Barlows of Salford near us trawl their stock to no avail.

Does anyone know, did these have a square or round Dyson plug on originally? We have both in purple/yellow but haven't checked them yet. Worst case scenario is a grey one.

We don't have a mint purple/yellow back hose either, so it may be a brand new silver one.

We have one or two of those in case of need. Not sure which of what [brush/stair], but I did see some in the box I was rooting in the other day. And the box we keep is the good stuff. It had everything in Dyson world in it except the De Stijl DC04 stair tool. :chuckle:

Having said that, I found a DC01 one in that box. Heck, there is even translucent blue tools in there and other obscurities. Just not the one I needed.......

We did a bit more on this today.

The new soleplate wheels came into stock:

[attachimg=1]

We didn't have a good enough purple flex, so it had to have a brand new genuine Dyson grey one:

[attachimg=2]

So we are now waiting on that stair tool:

[attachimg=3]

When that arrives, its final polish time and any snagging.

Or you can make a destijl stair tool out of a DC07 low reach stair tool (red) and a Dc04 swivel neck tool (purple)
Cool, atleast you found a gd tool though now :)
PS you can get yellow brushbars new! :)

BTw I have that exact Dyson DC14 all floors in white/orange/silver and the bin on mine is horrendous, I have to look kinda closely to see the dust I have picked up, how do I restore it?

We found the right back hose used, that we have now washed and dried.

Waiting on the eBay guy to send the stair tool so we can give it a final polish, take some more photos and call it done.......

This may be teasing you just a little bit but....look what came in a bag tied to one of the DC01's in a joblot I got my hands on this morning!

Looks to have had very little use and some no use at all  8)

Also, it goes to show how most people don't appreciate how rare this stuff is! Here's me picking up what I can to complete my dc01 de stijl, mvacs using up the last of their stock on theirs and people just throw away more of what we need!

Very true! All this hanging on a DC01 De Stijl I picked up for £6  ;D

I've never had a nice complete De Stijl tool set before - just thought it was odd one should turn up now when there was a couple of threads running about them.

Thie like buses! There's a few on ebay too!

One more build thread wouldn't hurt! £6 with all those tools is a steal too!

Well that job lot of stuff arrived, and the stair tool was mint as thought. So today it got its final polish and we call it done.

I'm not thrilled about the grey flex, when I come across a mint purple/yellow one, I think we'll swap it over.

It will compliment our DC01 De Stijl (https://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php/topic,1158.60.html) nicely.

Looks very good now finished. I'm also having problems tracking down the stair tool, but have got a couple of possible leads.
Why don't  you use one of the lavender extra long cables and cut it down? Has to be a reasonably close match to the purple?
https://manchestervacs.co.uk/Dyson/DC04-spares.html/Lavender-Dyson-Kirby-extra-long-flex-cord-lead
I've only just realised that I really need a floor tool to complete my De Stijl project, as it was part of the original spec, and not an option-but the few that are on eBay start at £20.
Some of these tool prices are getting silly-I was offered a stair tool today, but at £15 plus P&P...

Managed to pick up a crevice tool on eBay and a stair tool from a Dyson repairer, £12 the pair and both in reasonable condition.
Will start the restoration tomorrow.

We found two perfect ones a few days ago. One sold already this week for £22 delivered to a woman who had been waiting. We still have one. These are very rare now.

Call me anal, but I remembered this last week. We got a DC04 in that had an 'as new' looking purple/yellow flex on that was to refurbish for the shop floor. It tested great on the meter, so our De Stijl DC04 was brought down from the loft, unwrapped, and the flex swapped. The new one we fitted prior went on the shop floor machine.  :-*

Our DC04 De Stijl is now bang on!

When we move/expand sideways/open a second shop [which one is up in the air as yet] these De Stijl machines will be in a cabinet for visitors to look at.

Well I was about to say you can get a new purple and yellow power cord with rubbers and switch for 15 pound on ebay but you've already got one.

I need a De Stijl red wand, then mine will look like this when it gets its 6 monthly bath. Every 6 months I take it apart and bath the bathable parts, fully wash the bin etc,
I always rinse my bin with a bit of cold water after emptying, 5 mins with water filling and emptying, 10 mins with a towel, and onto the system, Could do with getting a new power cord, But not sure wether i want to spend 15 pound on a new power cord witht the yellow plug on etc. since I bought a perfectly good purple one of you guys a couple months ago. Shame the plugs green though not yellow.
