Title: Dead (?) DC04
Post by: oldmoley on March 24, 2016, 08:47:20 am
Picked up yesterday, a DC04 Absolute as shown in the attached photos. The cleaner owes me nothing, and I was told by the owner that 'it just stopped working' (heard that before, folks?). A quick inspection has revealed a broken wand handle, no post filter, a broken catch on the cyclone lid, and no tools. In addition, the motor makes a high pitched whine the like of which I last heard when running up the engine on a Harrier. No burning smell though, and the brush bar does turn, albeit slowly. Every instinct tells me that I have nothing more than a breaker on my hands here! Does anyone know of any reason why this model might be worthy of a rebuild, before I do the deed?

Thanks Parwaz. On the basis that I have nothing to lose, I'll probably have a go at this one after all. Just looked at it again, and it does seem a shame to split it for spares. Sorry about the lack of pics - the system says they are too large to upload!

Try using flickr or another photo sharing site for the photos. Or use PS to make them smaller.

That is all I would do with that.

I bet the clutch belts are stretched.

That's what I was thinking when it was mentioned the brush turned slowly with a wining sound... I wonder  :boggleeye:

I once had a DC04 Brush control (standard) and the brush span slowly due to hairy brush bearings
