hello first post, very good info on this site but can't find an exact answer
Ive recently bought a DC15 to test against my DC07 which performs flawlessly.
I was looking for a newer model as i wanted to test if dyson had improved the suction in the newer models, gaol is to get the best suction from a dyson in a model they produced.
Ive always liked the design of the DC15 and being as its not too far apart year wise from the DC07 i though it would be a good test as its quite close design wise to a DC14 which has the same motor as the 07
ive tested both machines on a large rug long pile DC15 first and seemed not to have much suck power but still picked up fluff and some debris, then after the complete rug hoovered the DC07 was used and felt much more powerful and picked up a lot of fine dust and fluff left over from the DC15.
Only part i have not changed is the filter that sits under the bin(pre motor) i can't see this making a huge different in airflow restriction or does it?
Or is it that the DC07 is one of the best dysons for suction?
Thanks in advance

As the post motor filter is filtering the outlet air from the motor from carbon dust off the brushes and other fine particles, yes when these are old they can, and do impede airflow. I've lost count the amount of DC14s, DC07 and DC04s ive had that had lower suction then others fixed by replacing that one filter.

For raw suction you'll struggle to beat a DC07.

thanks for al the info, i did wash the filter as a stop gap measure and it did improve the 15 but i say your right the DC07 is a beast compared to it, seem strange as the later ones are supposed to have better cyclone design.. 14 and on etc.
i really like the look of the 15 though and it glides so well on a hard floor
can you do any mods to the 15 to make it perform better?

Agreed!
My DC07 glues itself to the carpet, wand tries to suck my hand away. My DC14 is also good suction but nothing beats the DC07 when it comes to suction.

Do you think renewing the brush rollers would help my dc15? just done another test and the 15 is better but 07 pulled a "few" bit a fine dirt and fluff due to the forward stroke digging into the carpet making it quite hard to push but believe its rollers in the carpet is giving an advantage.
Does anyone know the correct MM of roller brush that is found on a new dc15 roller? and even a new roller would help agitation of only a few MM of use difference?
looking at the newer Dysons they have some sort of rubber seal on the baseplate to aid suction, can mine have something missing letting the sucked air out the sides of the baseplate? or is it the stainless plate only that serves as the connection between the surface(think it is)
one main difference i have seen if i haven't missed anything is the dc07 does not have the front large hole in the baseplate that is served for large debris, the dco7 has none so the main suck is through the roller, the dc15 must be letting a lot of suction power out of this outlet (rubber front of baseplate)
I think looking at this its for the pushing effect of debris in a forward motion as this would get sucked up the front large hole, has anyone blocked this hole to get a better suction?
just taped it up and it seems its sticking to the carpet more.. carpet too clean though to get a result

Yep, as MVacs mentioned, the DC07 is Dyson's most powerful sucking upright.
If you want best carpet cleaning rersults from a Dyson, a DC07 still is a good choice (especially if it has no brush control), however a newer ball Dyson like the DC41/DC55/DC40/ DC75 ERP models (with the blue brushrolls in them) have outstanding performance. They agitate the carpet (literally vibrate the deep down grit out) and the design of the head along with the suction is why it's one of Dyson's best vacuums, especially at cleaning.
The hose suction is basic, like the DC15 but design is everything.

thanks for the info, ill look out for a dc75 to test against the 07 and 15

A DC75 is cool, I’d recommend a DC41 mk2 or DC55 instead as they have a filter to protect the motor, they have the same performance and suction and the DC41/55 has slightly better airflow actually due to the less restricted airpaths

Non clutched DC07 in yellow and grey. Strongest suction I ever saw.
