Hi,
This is my first post and I'm happy to be posting on this forum.
I've owned a few dyson vacuum cleaners over the years,but have wanted a dyson washing machine after the first time I saw one many years ago in a high street shop, very cool looking and some thing different.
Any way I bought one in need of some repair from ebay, it was less than £30 so I bought a few more.
They are very easy to work on and I learnt as I went a long.
I made a socket to undo the nut on the drum and did a full strip down and rebuild.
I now have my dream washing machine for a very modest price.
As for the main drum bearing, I believe the seal is the weak link and the bearing is over engineered and would probably last for 20+ years if the water was kept out.
The seal is only repairable by fitting a seal in back wards and using the dyson old seal garter ring, as the dyson seal was made as a two part seal which is what the stainless steel ring is that's on the drum shaft.
This dyson two part seal must have been made for dyson and you can't get it for love or money.
The main bearing as posted in other posts can be sorted with a bearing that's 2mm shorter and fitted with a spacer.
I may try to engineer a better seal when I get time which may be better than the dyson seal, so making the machine very long lived.
As for removing the old bearing I use a old trick which works by knocking the centres out along with the balls and then using a mig welder weld around the inside of the outer bearing case.
Cool with water straight away and the weld shrinks the bearing case and it can be tapped out with ease with a small hammer.
The only annoying problem with the dyson is the coin trap is easerly blocked with small pieces of plastic or paper,so we always check pockets now.

I also bought a few with the intention of making a good one from what I bought. Eventually I gave up and broke them all for spares.
There is another chap on here that also made himself the tool to get the bearing out.
The last ones we sold were bought by Russians. I am not sure what they were doing with them.

How come you gave up?
The first machine I bought only needed a heating element,but I did a full strip down and check any way.
The machine tells you whats wrong with the codes the rest is no more complicated than any other washing machine.
Cars are full of complicated electronics so a washing machine should not be to difficult.

I gave up because of the situation with the LCD's being unavailable and known to be iffy.
There wasn't too much info on the net about them then, but since then we have some folks here who have rebuilt them. So when I come by another one, I hope to tap the knowledge base that is you guys here.

I did not know about a LCD problem that caused them to stop working.
I have seen a few that the LCD does not work fully but this does not affect them from working.
I think the power board is the problem, fuse or rectifier,probably caused by the motors working to hard, seizing drum on contrarotate cycle.
Lots for sale on ebay so now is a good time to buy a nice clean one and fix it up.
You must have a dyson washing machine to be a full on dyson nut ;D

Hi. Where did you get the heating element from? Mine was blowing the electrics (I did the rinse & spin test) and Dyson said there was no way of getting hold of one, anywhere, anymore!

I used a second hand element from one of the spare machines I bought off ebay.
You can get new parts on the net,but not from dyson.

Well, many thanks, but my 11-yr old CR01 was taken away this week and replaced with a brand new machine (not Dyson, obviously) which, to be quite honest, performs better, is more economical, and was on special offer for £300.
It hand washes, does duvets, takes 9kg, etc etc. Technology has sure moved on! I think we paid £800 for our all white CR01! I'm yet to see if the new one lasts 11 years but at that price, who cares? :)

Now it's looking like a new machine, not that it looked bad it's just finished it off nicely.
As for the post above, every one I've spoken to loved their dyson washing machine and was very sad to see it go.
There is still not a washing machine on the market that looks anywhere near as good as a dyson.
It's the only contra-rotating machine built for the domestic market that I know of and is very efficient, so the above post sounds like sour grapes.
I'm going to keep an eye out for a new top and white front panel.
I might build up another dyson for my parents, they have a bosch at the moment, but every time I see some ones washing machine, even if it's fairly new they just look cheap and old.
Dyson should really have kept making the washing machines and sorted any design problems out, updated it as they had already done the hardest part which was designing and building the cr01.

We have a few brand new boxed violet ones we haven't listed anywhere yet. I discovered them today while tidying up a pile of ex-Dyson old stock stuff I bought a while back.
Some DC02 cyclones and AB01 panels as well, but thats another topic I guess....

I've got a airblade and the front cover is not perfect, would your ab01 panel be plastic?
If it's cheap I might be interested.

AB01's are aluminium. AB03's are plastic. I am going to our Airblade supplier just after xmas, so if you want a plastic front panel that is mint, do get in touch, and I will pick you one up while I am there.
We have various aluminium panels already boxed and new.
