Title: New or refurbish?
Post by: Bear on January 10, 2019, 08:28:53 pm
Hi everyone,
I have a rather old Dyson DC07 and am wondering if I should get some parts from here or just order a refurbished one from Manchester Vacs. The refurbished one would cost more but be cleaner or I could get parts which would be cheaper.
Thanks in advance!

We dont routinely sell refurbished DC07s online anymore unless you contact us and make a plan. The newest on our site is DC14 (when available). We dont have that many refurbed machines on our site any more as the ones we have time to build get sold in the shop and our main focus now is spare parts and new Sebo vacuums.

Rebuilding Dysons takes a lot of time to do one right and our chaps dont have the time to do so many.

I'd get the parts and fix the one you have up.

You'll find step by step guides for both types of dc07 on here!

Combined with

Wash the sponge post filter, cage, main hose and the little hose underneath in the machine at 60 with your worst towels/bathmat etc, dry them, good as new!
New post filter and belt/clutch and brushroll will transform it!

I'm playing with an Animal Ball 2 at the minute, and whilst the carpet grooming performance is utterly amazing, both tool holders fall off all the time, it's a DC41 in drag, the blockage port is tricky to remove, it was clogged right through with xmas tree needles, the hose is SOOO heavy in your hand with that massive articulating phallus on the end and it's like pushing a Citroen AX across the floor, then you tilt it over just a fraction too far and WHOMPH, off it veers at a perfect 115 degree angle, taking your wrist with it.

I'd have a DC07 any day!

DC07s are very well built machines. They sold from 2001-2009 and they're still VERY popular in the UK even in 2019, just goes to show how good they are! The motors do tend to die after several years especially if the filters aren't maintained but other than that they're a fantastic piece of engineering. Very simple to work on too! I'd refurbish it, they seem too good to throw away since they're designed to last. These days many of the less premium brands are designed to be disposable with moulded together parts and wiring etc, but not with these good old beastly DC07s B)

And some of the premium brands.

And some of the premium brands.

Which ones?

I'd say Numatic is/was premium, they were fantastic ever since they came out, even with nice crosshead screws to access the motor but they're now torx screws! I wonder why?

I know Dyson uses torx screws but they always have done and have always been easy to change parts on

I would say some of the newer dysons are designed not to e messed with as there soooo hard to do anything with.

Nah, DC41s can be stripped as much as DC07s ☺️ Just a little more complex, but they are designed to last and be repaired

yep, very rare i touch anything newer than a dc40.
Don't want it either, people are realising when they find their new dyson breaks and is dropping to bits.
Heard this so many times..... (wish i had kept my old one - had it years)

I think the newer ones are just as reliable, the older ones certainly had wider ducting so were less blockage prone, but newer ones have flexible plastic which psychologically make people assume the quality is downhill when infact the softer plastic is designed to absorb more shocks and bashes :) Fantastic vacuums

Tbf I havent been amazingly impressed by the DC41. My uncle has the 41 MK2 animal. had it about year and half / two years and already had dyson bloke to it for a new cleaner head as the old one wouldnt budge on the adjustment slider thingy. Its had a new handle and wand because they just wouldn't go together right and a new hose. For a two year old vacuum.. Not amazed. Although I will admit when they work they are good.
