I have a UK model DC14 Animal. I now live in the USA and have 110 v, not 220/240v. What do I need to do so it works in the USA? The plug is the easy part. It is the power that is the problem. Thank you for your advice.

I believe you will need to replace the motor with a 110v version motor.
I assume the usa also had DC14 vacs so there should be motors available on your side of the pond ?
There is a way i think to have an external step up transformer but it really isnt practical ?

Yes as Ryevac mentioned you can get motors in the USA, try finding a local vacuum shop, they will most likely be willing to replace the motor for you. But they aren't that hard to do, a Dc07 motor will fit as well.
The DC14s in the USA have quieter motors and because carpets are thicker in the USA they have also got a different brush design along with the bottom plate and purple housing, I recommend upgrading those parts too for it to work optimally because the UK DC14s have softer bristles as they are designed for the thinner European carpets
