Title: DC24 110V to 240V conversion - what needs to be changed out?
Post by: indecided on August 21, 2011, 04:24:59 pm
I've got a 110V DC24 and need to have its internals switched out to work with 240V power instead. I'm trying to figure out if this is more cost effective then purchasing a new 240V DC24 instead..

So far what i've been able to figure out is that i'm going to need at least :

new ball motor
brushbar (or just the motor, if the PCBs and part ratings are equivalent

I'm not sure about :
power switch (different ratings)
power cord (I could just put on a 3 pin plug, but again - is the US cable rated lower then the UK?)

Is there anything else that i'm missing, like a PCB for the main ball motor itself? I looked at the DC25 schematics and it didn't seem to indicate any other electronic parts.

I'm in the USA and i'd be interested in getting the parts shipped over. Thanks!

I have done a few of these conversions on dc25 , dc24,07,14,17,23 models

You will need to change the motor and brush bar motor , and the circuit board inl the reset switch which on the 24 luckily comes on the circuit.

Everything else will be fine , the cord and switch are more than capable of handeling the 220volt power, most of these cords and switches are saftey tested to 500v.

machines that are sold in the USA are UL tested , they have the most stringent testing for saftey, machines teseted by UL are ofetn much safer than machines tested by other saftey boards

Thanks for the quick reply! When you refer to the circuit board in the reset switch are you talking about the reset switch on the brushbar or the main switch/brushbar activation switch on the vacuum itself? If it's the brushbar it might make more sense to just replace the entire brushbar methinks..

Hi yes the circuit board on the brush bar , yes we often just replace the entire cleaner head assembly as it is more cost effective

Makes sense. It seems like the DC24 has a internal PCB as well - do you know if that needs to be replaced? You don't happen to have a close up picture of it do you?

That is the part no for the brush bar ciruit board , On the models I have worked on their were no other circuit boards

Ah - I see. that is good news knowing that I only need a new YDK motor and a new brushbar assembly.

Thanks so much for your help!
