Hi all,
I'm having a problem with my DC21. There was a smell of the motor burning after a while just switched off and didn't turn on again. I put a replacement motor in, switched it on and the burning smell is still there so I promptly turned off the vacuum cleaner. Is there a part other than the motor which could be the root cause here and what is it?

If the motor has burned out, the HEPA filter, or post motor pad (whichever is fitted) will be badly contaminated with carbon and the smell will remain. Did you change both filters too?

Hi, thanks for the prompt response!
I didn't change the filter, is it just the one filter that is in the DC21?

They have two.
There is a pre filter, that, if in good condition can be washed and dried. In fact *must* be if you have changed the motor. That one being blocked is the most likely reason the motor burned out anyway.
The smell will be coming from the HEPA filter, which you cannot wash and dry. You can get one from >>this page<< (https://manchestervacs.co.uk/Dyson/cylinder-spares.html).
