Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
A few years ago, I received a second hand working DC25 Animal from my brother who moved overseas. After a year the brush head stopped rotating, but would rotate briefly when pressing on the brush bar button next to the power button.
Read online that there could be a fault with the yoke wires, so opened it up, carried out visual inspection, nothing obvious so put it back together put it in the garage. Then I bought another working second hand DC25, the idea being that I would have spare parts from the first machine if needed.
Yesterday, a year on, the second DC 25 failed with the same fault! Grrrrr.
Opened up both DC25's and when bypassing both reset switches, the brush heads rotate suggesting the reset switches have both failed, however if the reset switches are effectively fuses or circuit breakers like I have in the house, buying two new reset switches might be a waste of time and money. Bypassing them could be force the real problem to become worse and even cause a fire!
So given that the brush bar briefly rotates when the reset switch is pressed or spins constantly when bypassed, does this sound like two faulty reset switches or could it suggest that there is a fault developing inside the yoke wires on both machines?
I have a multi meter which I use to check voltage of DC batteries or electrical continuity, but I know it can do much more such as electrical resistance, though I am not familiar with those and other functions.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

If bypassing them results in a working brushroll, then yes, it's the reset switch. If not, suspect yoke loom failure, which is common in the DC25, both intermittent and total. Neither are expensive parts to replace, although accessing the yoke loom requires some dismantling.

Thanks macman. It has occured to me that the purpose of the reset switch might be to trip out the brush head in the event that something gets stuck in the brush head, like a sock etc. If the reset switch keeps tripping out, is this not an indication that there is additional load on the brush head and the switch is doing it's job? I can't see anything wrapped round the brushes and they turn freely by hand!
Yesterday, I ordered two reset switches, two power switches and a yoke loom, so spares should be here soon.
Fairly good at DIY, so not worried about dismantling, but electrics are a little voodoo/ black magic to me sometimes. :whist11:

Update, spares arrived today. Just finished replacing both reset switches in both DC25's and both are working as they should again. Result, thanks. ;)
