Title: Brush bar not turning
Post by: Eqs dc24 on December 18, 2016, 10:49:38 am
Hello, I am a dc24 owner with a brush bar that does not turn and I'm looking for suggestions
The main suction is still working.

The original brush bar got clogged up when the dc24 was being used for cleaning. Did all the usual things like remove the brush and cleaned it out. I reset the little red button, but would not turn.

The main vacuum still sucks fine

The switch has always seemed a bit sticky, so I swapped it with the main on off and still no power to the brush, but the main suction, now using what was the brush switch works.

I ordered a replacement brush head assembly from Manchester vacs, it looks to be a newer version, but still fits. (It has no little red button, and a red clip on top. The original had dyson grey). I assume it should work.

The replacement has arrived, but still no power.

The spine wiring appears to have no damage from what I can see before it disappears.

What's the next suggested step? Take apart the rest of the path for the electric power to where the brush head assembly attaches? I looked at the disassembly tutorial. I'm up for this to avoid buying a new vacuum, but would like to avoid it and I'm trying to be more 'surgical' in the diagnosis as I do have a cleaner that is mainly working...There doesn't appear to be a fuse... but what else could it be.p? A clog shouldn't damage the power to the brush head?

Thanks for any help or advice
Dave

This is why I'm not a fan of Dysons, and so I can't offer any help other than the normal common sense advice of tracing the wires back until you find the fault. Which you will, there has to be some somewhere after all...

But, if you wait one of the Dyson Geeks will soon see your thread and won't hang around in typing you a long yet informative post on what is most likely the problem. As I'm sure they've come across this issue many times in their short (Most of them are kids) but educational lives.

Have a great day, DUDE.

Ok first thing, have you tested it with the machine reclined? brush only works in this position.  There is a micro switch near the ball that controls this, check this is working.

I'd be looking at the power switch first.

All you can do is follow and meter the circuit: switch, micro switch, feeding loom.

"I'd be looking at the power switch first. "

Swapping the power switches eliminated this...

Will look for the micro switch.

Is dyson wire known to deterioriate ?

If you've got a complete new head assembly on,  and it's not the switches then it's got to be the wiring, but I'd be surprised if that's damaged, and ive never known it deteriorate.

Have you checked the voltage coming out of the brushroll housing socket with the machine on and reclined?

The only other thing it could possibly be is the microswitch that gets turned on with the machine reclined. Bridge the 2 tiny slade terminals together for a quick fix test.

Switch is on side of machine in line with ball, under a small cover, there is a thread on here covering the complete tear down of a dc24, by Beko, that will show you all you need to know.
