To be honest, I'd take more notice if it was an independent survey run by a reputable company.

Statistics can be twisted.  They probably took their sales figures from forever,  divided it by the number of households and rounded it up.

They may have even included global sales and households,  depends how hot their insight team is.  If their the same tram who book their  doordrops then not very is the answer...

I found this:

Quote
Dyson Ltd continued to lead vacuum cleaners in the UK holding 20% retail volume share in 2012. The only other companies which hold large retail volume share in addition to Dyson are Vax Ltd and Hoover Candy Group with 10% and 8% in 2012. Dyson benefits from a number of factors, including its strong reputation for quality, design and functionality. The brand also benefits from its UK heritage and from wide distribution and strong marketing support.

The Dyson is now the top selling upright vacuum cleaner brand in the US, with a near 27% market share. And interestingly, given the turmoil in the eurozone economies, Dyson even saw real revenue growth in Spain over the past year.

The group has been very careful to spread risk across a number of markets and products. Last year it sold 85% of its machines outside the UK, compared with 30% in 2005.

This is a 2015 report:

Quote
Dyson Ltd remained the leader in vacuum cleaners in the UK in 2014 with a 20% volume share, followed by Vax Ltd and Hoover Candy Group with respective shares of 9% and 7%. Other multinational players such as Samsung, Miele and Electrolux were also present. New player Grey Technology Ltd emerged with the launch of a cordless vacuum cleaner range. The company has reported strong sales for 2014 and is likely to continue to gain share in the coming years.

It looks like 20% of the domestic market and 27% of the US market.

Well, yes and no. If the 20% refers to year on year sales, I can see that they get 20% of sales. However, Dyson owners don't buy a new machine every year or two (well, owners of older ones don't). We all know that by the fact we are still servicing 15 year old machines.

If you add 20% of new sales to the existing machines in the market and all the recon machines sold that sales figures cannot record, the 20% would grow a lot. Perhaps that is where their claim of 64% comes from.

It would be interesting to see a straw poll of a few thousand people as to what brand of machine they own. That may be a more reliable indicator.

It gets spent too quickly.  Can turn 2 dc07s into a full exhaust system for my car,  or a weeks holiday,  or a weeks shopping too easily!

Means we are paying our debts off with the spare money from normal wages though,  so not all bad,  so im told!

Ha: I know that feeling. As soon as you get it, another bill crops up or something breaks down. Saw a sign earlier that's pretty apt too: Mum & Dad have what I call a Workshop relationship, Dad works for Mum to shop. Didn't realise my missus was right behind me when I said how right it was. God my ears are still ringing, she's got an evil right hand :boggleeye: :icon_nod:
