Hi
I'm half way through dismantling my DC07 to replace the motor. As I was removing the clutch assembly this fell out:
Can anyone please tell me if this is a part out of the machine, or something which just got in there somehow. It's about 2 3/4 inch long and 3/32 wide. I wouldn't want to start the machine with some thing missing and destroy the new motor.
Cheers
John

It is a locating pin that goes in the clutch cover.

Thanks very much, I've found the location. There's a slight problem though: The bit the pin goes into has a split in it which won't push together enough to glue. Would it be OK for me to superglue the pin in place, or does it need to be removable?

I guess you could glue it in, it wouldn't make much difference.

Thanks, I'll do that.

My take on this is that the pin is part and parcel of the clutch cover and should stay within the cover. I can't see gluing it in would present problems as long as it all stays in place when the cover is refitted.
If as you say, the female part of the plastic pin recess is split, and you are worried about it, you can get a replacement clutch cover VERY cheaply from Manchester vacs (the pin comes with the cover).
Have just recently bought two of these as spares for 99p each from MV and that is the way they came (with a pin inserted.
P.S. I did purchase them as an add on to my order to make up the free postage limit. I suppose if you purchased a one off the cost would increase with their minimum postage cost.

Thanks Grumpy Jim. I did glue it in place and everything seemed to go back together OK.

Well done Smithy, happy to have helped and at least being able to offer you a pointer to a replacement second option and solution to the problem.
