Could you please help me to help to get my OAP mother out of a pickle, she has a dyson DC04 and she don't know how or why, but she has lost the wand end cap and spring, my sister has bought new ones but I don't know how to fit them, so I was wondering if you would be kind enough to e-mail me some instructions please ??

Thanks for joining the forum. Its easier that we do questions like this on here, so others can benefit from it in the future.
Following your original email, I documented this today for you.
I am assuming you have the DC04 in front of you without the wand cap and spring in place right now.
First, locate the spring in the holes on each side:

Observe the direction the kink in the spring sits. Make sure you get it the right way round.
Then, look at your wand cap. There is a ridge running down the centre on the inside. That ridge has a little nick in it. See the photo below:

The end cap fits onto its round locating lugs with your fingers. You simply expand it a little to locate it on the lugs as you fit it. Be sure not to disturb the spring from its little holes as you do so.
Having fitted it, all you need to do now is locate the spring in the little nick. You do this by placing a screwdriver carefully from above like so:

Push the spring down the ridge until it locates into the little nick. It will snap in. Check the spring is level and not at a tilt at either side. If it is, manipulate it straight using your screwdriver, taking care it stays in the slot.
That's it! Your spring is fitted.
Let me know how you get on. :tiphat:

Thank you for the helpful advice and pics, I found them very useful. In the end, I didn't need a new spring, just to line it up with that notch!

HI, I have received my replacement wand cap and new spring from yourselves but on looking at the want there is no holes for the spring. Did Dyson produce different wands, it is a DC04 adsolute (grey/purple).
Many thanks
Stu

You probably have a non original wand in that case. Or a very, very early machine if purple/grey/yellow Absolute.
Some very early wand caps have cut outs in them and instead of a spring, and they locate by the zig-zag type cut outs. That type of wand cap is no longer available (they are like hens teeth used too).
What we do with those wands is very carefully grind in the notches to a later wand cap where they were on the original and dispense with the spring.
Is the round locating peg on your wand a zig-zag shape instead?
