Title: DC25 Brush Motor Board resistor value?
Post by: tr84 on December 28, 2016, 03:04:04 pm
Hi,

I'm having to replace the motor in a DC25 cleaner head and also a resistor on the board is blown. I'd prefer to replace the resistor than spend £14 on a new board. Unfortunately, when it blew the portion of the shell showing the value disintegrated! Looking at other similar boards online it would probably be 1k, labelled "WP4S 1R0 5%". But I would like to be sure. It is labelled R1 and is the resistor closest to the front of the head when assembled.

Does anyone have easy access to read the value?

Thanks

Tim

Do you have a photo of the one you want a value from?

It is shown in the photo here: https://manchestervacs.co.uk/Dyson/DC25-PCB-Assembly
It's the sky-blue resistor towards the top of the PCB.

Thanks.

Do these help?

Yes, thank you very much! It is the one I thought. Nice to be sure so that it doesn't blow again in a few weeks!
The vacuum is on it's third or fourth life now - 8+ years isn't too bad for a modern product.

Thanks again.

Did we establish the value of the R1 as I am in exactly the same position, the value has blown off of the resistor :(

Hi Nik, this was quite a while ago (and we now have a new vacuum) but it seems it was the one I originally thought and should be labelled "WP4S 1R0 5%", so is 1Ohm (though I originally called it 1k :S).
The exact one is available here: https://uk.farnell.com/welwyn/wp4s-1rja2/resistor-1r-4-watt-5/dp/1219252?st=wp4s (ignore the picture) though of course any similar one will do.

Thanks Tim, I just replaced the motor in a customers DC25 and noticed this Resistor had blown.
I dont fancy buying a whole new board for the sake of a few pence - the only problem for me now is where to buy a 1 Ohm resistor since Maplin closed.

I like to keep these older machines alive, it makes my work more interesting :)

Don't overlook the fact that the original from farnell has a flameproof coating, and should really be wirewound due to the surge caused by the motor starting up.
Think the dc24 head pcb uses same resistor.

That reminds me Nick, send me your address please and i will return that dc40 erp control pcb, which has had the fet i think it was replaced.

RS components is the other, probably safer source.

could imagine after seeing the fluff build up in some head assemblies, if using a carbon film resistor and it started to glow !
Isn't the resistor actively an inductive choke anyway ? i would rather leave it out, fit a link - than fit the wrong type and let the motor take the brunt at startup.

I have accounts with both cpc/farnell and rs, rs free post and next day delivery.
