Title: DC04 Absolute: Green cyclone disassembly
Post by: macanics on September 01, 2013, 03:20:01 pm
Hi all.

I have a DC04 Absolute (green/purple) that I'm cleaning as it's chock full of grot. I've released the green conical cyclone part from the head, and would like to seperate the inner and outer parts to clean the inner surfaces. There seems to be a cap on the pointy end which could come off, but other than that I can't see any obvious way of doing it. I'm reluctant to apply force without checking first! I haven't found any guides online, so can anyone help?

Brute force splits the cyclone down further. They are clipped together. They split down like so.

Thanks, that makes me more confident about applying leverage. Off to find 2 meaty screwdrivers.

If you hold the assembly by the shroud (perforated bit), and firmly smack the pointy end (technical term!) of the cone on some carpet it will pop out of the indented line you can see in the above picture.

To refit, flip it around so you bash the shroud down onto the rest of the cyclone unit. The shroud will snap back into the groove. Then push the whole thing into the outer shell, making sure the screw holes line up as it's hard to twist around when all together

If you use a screwdriver, it may crack/mark the shroud.

Thanks Beko from me too.
I am just about to do this and was also wondering how after tentative large screwdriver leavering indicated they aught to come apart but I too thought the lip might break off.
At last a very good excuse to carpet the garage/workshop.....explain to wife that to get her Dyson back to new needs the carpet  :))

ps not had time to look in barn for vintage vacuum cleaner yet.

I carepted my garage in carpet tiles, apart from looking funky if I drop a screw or other small object it doesnt bounce on the concrete and dissapear. The awful state of the concrete under the tiles means that there's holes and indentations everywehre which everything dropped rolls into!

No worries about the old Hoover, got plenty to keep me busy for now! Would have to hide it from the missus anyway for a bit, got too many vacs on the go atm, another one (DC16) arrived today!

Re-assembly of cyclone.
For all-:
It is worth being aware that one of the fins at the top is partially cut away so that it clears the round valve in the head.....so as well as lining up the screw holes, the cyclone assembly can only be fitted to the head one way round.
