Hi All,

I have been successful for a long time repairing HD and HS units, recently I have had a couple of Air Wraps (HS01) with the blinking white led and it's not a dirty filter.

The machine, as soon as it receives power will start to blink - I can hear at the same time I switch the power button on a squeak, it reminds me of a capacitor charging.

Does anybody have any clues ?
I thought this would be a simple power cable swap from what the customer said before bringing it to me but of course thats not the case.

Any help appreciated as I hate getting beaten by something - it's a personal pride thing :)
Are there any sensors? Hall effect etc ??

Nik Grey.
P.S. I do like and use parts from M-Vacs, they are always good quality but those little white sweets in a plastic wrapper you sent as a bonus with my last order taste terrible - a bit like soap :(

Hi All,

I own and run 'Links Repair Shop (The Original Dyson Doctor) and have been here since 2016.

I am in Hellesdon, Norwich. NR6 5PQ.
Due to my local council restrictions (I am residential officially but have a proper commercial workshop here) I am open every week day 3-6pm - no need to book, just turn up during our opening hours with a £10 CASH deposit so I can book you in.

We work on a 'First Come, First Served' basis but can usually get machines back to their owners in 48 hours.

** Be careful though as my former apprentice has set up a business in my postcode area and has helpfully chosen almost the same name as Me so my customers think I have another branch over the road, they remember seeing him in my business so it's an understandable mistake (by design of course).

If you are trying to find me just search facebook for Links Repair Shop.

Nik Grey.

Second Generation "The Ball" Dysons. / DC 75 , motor failure/burnout
« Last post by crypto-136 on March 22, 2024, 08:42:12 pm »
Hi all I've had second hand dyson dc75 for my uni house the past while it would have a rasping noise on start up that would go away and the wand suction had become weak.

At the head it worked perfectly albeit it was getting a bit hot but I thought  that was down to the dust build up in canister which was emptied after each use (the building walls are getting  removed due to unsafe fire proofing and the amount of dust coming  in everyday is unbelievable)

Recently I went to use it and it switched off there was noticeable burning smell coming  from the ball. When it's now turned on only the brush motor on the head will work.

I have taken it apart and have no blockages , I've discovered it has two hepa filters each side and god know how old they are they don't look bad but I'm guessing  that's the only possible cause ?

If there is power going to the head still would this mean the capacitor  and thermal cut out is good and the motor itself has failed ?

I'm waiting on a multimeter to arrive , has anyone  had issues with the DC75 before ?

Thanks very much for your reply.....tried using various blades/pointed screwdrivers to no good.....in end just used "brute" force with  pair of pliers as last resort and it worked!!!!
New motor now installed and working .....fingers crossed it will work for the 15 or so years the original motor worked for.
Thank you for suggestion.
Regards
George

Given: DC40 that served us for good amount of time, until tenants ruined it. After they moved out we discovered it is in completely non-working condition.

Every single freaking part was clogged with dog hair - canister, upper hose, lower under the ball hose, brush was not rotating. it took me 2 hours to completely disassemble, clean and re-assemble it.

I washed the canister and replaced filters with brand new ones. It started working again - great suction when it runs - both on carpet/rotating brush mode, as well as thru the hose. Picks up everything.

Now the problem - shut downs after 5-15 of working - motor just stops and there is complete silence. Unpluging/re-plugging does not help. Moving to another power outlet - does not help. I can confirm that there is reliable current/voltage supply. If I switch into carpet cleaning mode, the brush starts rotating. There is no suction or motor noise when brush starts rotating.

So I am assuming it is a thermal shutdown problem and when touching the ball, it is quite warm.
My extesive search over internet (did not know about this forum) found only this thread
https://www.fixya.com/support/t26537094-dyson_dc40_gets_hot_shuts_off_start

But it was aslo mentioned that overheating might be due to clogging. I don't see that happening in my case - just checked (after it shut down itself couple of hours ago). There is really good suction and again, hoses are clean.

So what I think it might be due to thermal protection fuse. This thread below indicating the same and mentioned in the thread that the problem was gone after fuse replacment:
https://www.reddit.com/r/VacuumCleaners/comments/djogu2/overheating_problem_with_a_dyson_dc39_ball/

If this really my case as well, could you please point me how to properly replace the the fuse and what would be the right part number for the replacement?

I guess I can get from Aliexpress pretty much anything.

And if it is NOT thermal fuse then what?

Thanks in advance.

Vax Vacuum Cleaners / VAX 121(?) RFI suppressor
« Last post by KevinD on March 17, 2024, 09:13:23 am »
Morning all,
new to your forum - thanks for letting me join and post. I have a query some of you may be able to help with regarding the sourcing of a new RFI suppressor which I suspect has failed on my very old (~1988) VAX carpet cleaner/vacuum.

I read with interest this thread from some time ago (https://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php?topic=1849.0)
I note that the last few posts on that thread talk about sourcing a replacement suppressor, but there are no details of anyone being successful.

I wondered if anyone has subsequently had success in finding a suitable replacement part?

I will give a bit of background to pre-empt a few of the likely questions.....
I think the cleaner is a VAX 121 as it is almost identical to the pics in the excellent series of photos in the above referenced thread, although the solution tank ‘tennis ball’ arrangement is slightly different on mine. I am unsure of the model as most of the lettering from the data plate has faded.
Anyway, the machine started tripping the mains supply RCD after several minutes of use. The time between trips got shorter as the machine warmed up. That happened on both wet and dry. It could be motor insulation failing, but I suspected the most likely cause was the suppressor.
Contacted VAX before I saw your forum, and as predicted by others in your forum on other queries to VAX, they were COMPLETELY useless.
I have bypassed the suppressor, and things seem to run Ok now. I would however like to replace the suppressor if I can as I don’t want to risk the HF ‘noise’ generated by the motor leaking back into my household mains circuit and causing some issues with the various fairly sensitive electronic components we have around houses nowadays (computers, TVs, etc).
Hence this post – if anyone has suggestions or knows where I can get an equivalent RFI suppressor I would be most grateful!
