Title: Cutting Out

Hi, my Dyson DC04 absolute works but, it cuts out after about 10 minutes or so. Anyone any ideas what could be the cause?

Typically a blocked pre filter, it is designed to cut out when it overheats due to lack of airflow.

Have you used it for any building debris, plaster, etc?

Yeah I agree with MVacs, Try cleaning the pre motor filter (The one on the top of the bin, On the bin handle under the DC04 logo there is a button, press that to open the filter cover) and replace the post motor filter (HEPA filter located underneath the bin, under a purple or grey cover, you may be able to just pull up on the tab but if not use a small flat screwdriver, This filter is NOT washable BTW)
Hope you get it sorted soon, Good vacuums the DC04 Absolute I have one myself

What colour is your absolute? Purple and green or grey, yellow and purple

It's a purple and lime version. Both filters have been changed for new but still cuts out after a few minutes.

Does it smell carbony? Is the plastic under the post motor filter black? I think it's time to invest £25 into a new motor for another 10 years of use if it's still cutting out.

Try removing the cyclone, AND both filters and turning it on and leaving it, does it still cut out then? Is the air being exhausted from the motor unit very hot?

It doesn't smell of any type of burning and the suction is good. I'll try what you've suggested. Maybe it is time for a new motor. Thanks.

I'm more thinking is it blocked? Run it without the cyclone, then pop the cyclone back on when running, does the motor note change?

I've tried running it without the cyclone and the air coming from the motor I would describe as 'warm' certainly not 'hot' There is a change in the sound when the cyclone is replaced. However, I've just noticed that the brush roll isn't spinning with the machine in the 'down' position so, The belt must have snapped. Could this cause the overheating and cutting out?

Doubt it, unless the clutch is seized. But then it would melt through the belt quicker than you could say 'right, let's see what this does'

Ultimate test then, whip the clutch off, cyclone off and post filter out. Turn it on, set a timer...

If it still cuts out, lob a new motor in! You'll be 3/4 the way there by this point
