Is it safe to use?
-
picture of it ?
If it's just a scuff to the outer grey sheath then i let them go, if the brown or blue is showing then i replace the cable.
-
thats next to the shroud, just rewire it cutting off 4 or 5 inches first.
You will need a couple of compression spade connectors, 1 female to connect live to the switch and 1 male for the neutral i think.
-
Ryevac is spot on.
My rule is if the grey outer insulation has gone through but the blue and brown cables are intact, I do a proper heat shrink repair on the damaged area. I'll allow a max of 3 repairs on a cable, depending on how big the area of damage is.
-
what size heat shrink do you use is a hair dyer hot enough never used it
-
If it's your own machine just put some tape round it.
-
with stress on that area it's only a matter of time till the inner cores break unless you rewire it.
-
My dco4 has been going like it for over 8 years
-
Can I still use? If I fixed do I have to change the whole wire?

Would a dc07 cable fit a dc14? They look the same, don't they?

Very true... What's your age dysonboy123 ?
And don't forget to unplug it beforehand. :dead-dyson:

I would say it's about 1.5cm. I use a paint stripping gun with a curved end attachment.
-
No pics but it's dead simple.
1. take off the switch cover (2 screws on back of spine).
2. Remove cable from switch and neutral connection.
3. Slide protective shroud down from broken area.
4. Measure the length of cable between broken cable and terminals, less than the area between grey insulation and terminals.
6. At the broken point CAREFULLY cut through the outer insulation ( I use a Rabii tool but in carfull hands a stanley knife will do).
7. Pull off the broken bit of outer insulation.
8. Measure the blue and brown wire. Add an extra cm and cut.
9. Carefully remove about 1cm of insulation from blue and brown wires and twist the copper together tightly and bend the copper in half and crimp on new terminals. Terminals are cheap as chips if ordered from China, however, I would recommend a proper crimping tool. A pair of pliers/mole grips is just not good enough
10. Re-route the cable and make sure the switch is in the "ON" position before fitting the the switch housing.
No charge!

I'm 18. And don't worry, I always turn of the plug before starting any work on it. :chuckle: :chuckle:.

I might be changing the whole wire. Better safe then sorry. The wire has a weird lump on it.

Any dyson cable will fit any other dyson if you swap over the cable grommit on the machine.
Any 2 core (or 3 core with cut off earth) thats 1.5mm I think? will fit any dyson providing you put new crimp spades on and swap over your cable gromit.
A DC07 cable will directly fit a dc14, vice versa because they share the same gromits.
-
Is there any dc14 cables for sale?

Not really, spades and lengths differ across models. And if you fit the wrong one it wont wrap right.

Hundreds of them >here< (https://shop.manchestervacs.co.uk/dyson-upright-vacuum-cleaner-spares/dc14-spares/dc14-power-cord-flex-cable).

And to add to this you may open it up and find something like this.....

 had a few of them

I've bought a used cable for dc14 in good condition wire is dirty, but doesn't bother me.
-
get a damp cloth, spray it with some bleach based spray cleaner - hold it tight over the cable and pull through the cloth several times and it will look new.
-
Don't forget to rinse.
-
Also, don't forget to put it in the dishwasher. :)) :)) :))
-
dish all the spare cable into a bucket of water after and then pat test it - just to be sure :grinn:
-
The black box which holds the wire is not going back on.
